    I've decided to join...

After frequent visits to this website for information I decided to join. My name is David and I have a rare 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 with the KLDE motor swapped into it and working out kinks and upgrading/modifying. I'm from TeamZX2.com with the same user name and have been a member with them since 2002, I traded my 2002 ZX2 for this 2000 ZX2 with the swap 80% completed by another member who lost interest in the project. I have had it running and driving all last year and fixed all the wiring issues it had. Things that I recently completed this year was a correct radiator fitment from an 88 Toyota Van, autometer fuel gauge and temp gauge, and a manual rack from an Escort Pony. Right now I have a KLG4 intake manifold that I'm starting to put in, MX3 GS brake booster/master cylinder/proportioning valve swap, and swapping axle joints around to get the correct length and splines. My winter goals are to get the car plasti-dipped red and springtime get Megasquirt and BC Racing coilovers part number N-07 (323 GTX). I'm not sure if most of you are aware that the ZX2 shares much in common with the Protege's and 323's. Anyway, happy modding everyone! I'm sure I'll have some questions and answers for those who are interested.

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Wow! Awesome. And if I'm not mistaken, running OBD1 management. I've been looking into a 3rd gen Escort/KL swap project of my own.

And, for you to fix your axle length issues, all you need is a pair of FC RX7 Lower balljoints. They'll extend your front track 15mm per side.
          Current:
          68 Torino GT Fastback
          86 MR2
          91 F150
          94 Escort Wagon BP swap
          99 Escort Wagon BP swap
          00 Miata LS
          08 Arrow AX8
          14 Mazda5

It's a pretty easy swap, you really don't have to modify anything. As long as you get the engine wire harness for it and aftermarket gauges your pretty much set. The guy that tried to do this swap originally did everything half-ass and half the mx3 gs gauge he shoved in here didn't even work not to mention the wrong ECU for it. The mounting is the same, and I would suggest going autometer all the way instead of messing around with the dash wire harnesses, because I had to bypass most of it. Also I suggest finding a 98 ZX2 specifically because it has a return fuel system, the 99-03 ZX2 is returnless and you would have to modify your sending unit to have fuel go back in the tank. Anyway original person attempting the swap gave up on the project and sold it to some guy in Ohio, who let it sit outside for 3 years unfinished. Then I took it 2 years ago to get it running and driving right, had to fix alot of the wiring, steering, and suspension issues. I'm also swapping out the brake master and booster for the mx3 gs version (half the size), so I could use the straight neck KLG4 IM. The curved neck IM will be fine if you want to keep the stock brake system.

Also forgot to mention that the radiator will have to go, I placed a radiator from a 88 Toyota Van in there and mounted it with some Home Depot brackets. It's a really good radiator, real thick too.

Runs good for a 9.5 compression KL (not done with turbo parts yet). 1st gear was useless on the Probe GT transmission (4.33 fd) and without LSD. Now I have the Mazda 626 transmission (4.10 fd) and LSD, 1st gear is now enjoyable, and I get to go just past 60 mph in 2nd gear, where I had to shift to 3rd at 50 mph or so before on the other trans. Have not taken it to the track yet but it is definitely faster then my gf's Fiesta ST with me driving as a comparison, so somewhere in the low 14's is my guess for bench-racing right now. Not going to the track until the turbo project is complete and my base tune of approximately 300whp at 9psi is set. So I'll update again maybe next year when it's all installed and running. You can always check on my up-to-date progress on teamzx2 if your interested. http://teamzx2.com/threads/35370-KL-...keover)/page41

Next significant update, replaced my rear brakes with 2000 Mazda Miata rotors/calipers/pads. You can see the significant difference in pad size from Escort GT to Miata. Needed to shim the caliper bracket to spindle with a standard aluminum washer for each bolt hole, otherwise the caliper bracket will hit the outer part of the rotor. Photobucket has been stupid lately so I can't post pics directly, so here is the link to the pics.

If you want to move this thread to build threads that's ok, if you want to.

are those the near 11" miata rotors? and is this your first experience with cryo rotors? if not what are your actual thoughts on them
