I'll have to keep that in mind when I start looking at upgrades. Right now I am trying to limit upgrades to those that are "needed" or would be repeating work. So I am researching the Galant Rotor upgrade, as I don't want to rebuild the bearings only to upgrade later and have to do all that work again.

So made some more progress and just goes to show you how crazy us car people can be someday. It was 41 degrees out with wind, and I totally wash the gtx :D.

      At the start:

      Afterwards:

Not perfect by any means, but when you are wearing latex style gloves just to make your hands more water resistant just to help fend off some of the cold water.

Unfortunately after cleaning the engine bay I ran into a little issue. There is some "bad" surface rust so I am going to need to clean that up and paint it. Shouldn't be to bad to clean it up and such, the hard part is hunting down some factory white. Due to where it's at I am thinking of hunting down some factory paint in a spray can option. If anyone has some leads to some local places that can mix up paint(I've already found the paint code) in a spray car that be great, even better if open on a Sunday.

Either way making good progress once I get that area fixed I can slide the motor back in and start replacing some hoses and such. Minor setback but honestly for a 1988 car, if this is the only real body rust I've run into I am happy, and it looks like it happen cause something leaked on it. From the location I am thinking maybe a battery leaked as I know the battery tray is shot.

Side Note, I bloody hate those lips from the garage to driveway. Moving the car solo up a small incline is bad enough but trying to get over that almost 1" lip. ****ing hell.

Small update, not much done on the car today. I did swing by the PO's and got some more parts:

That other two springs, new wheel bearings, ball joints, some LCA bushing, some other little things, oh and a big book.

That should make working on this car much much easier. I was shock at how thick this thing is.

PDF forms are nice but nothing to me beats having a hard copy in hand while in the garage.

I know. When the PO owner sent me a text that he found it one even while looking for more spare parts for me, I about did back flips :D. No current updates as it been cold, and the wife's under the weather. So I been having to help more with the house and family.

So as normal life gets in the way, but progress still being made.

So over the last few weeks, I been slipping down to the garage when I can to work on the GTX.

Rebuilt the lower control arms with the new bushing.

Did both sides but guess I forgot to take photos of them.

Also rebuilt the two front knuckles. Which are a PITA, I had these bearing types, and I think in the future I am going to keep my eyes open for some BG AWD knuckles. Luckly if I did the bearings right I won't have to worry about them for a while. I also have had to turn down the hubs to fit behind the new rotors.

                  On to the photos:

                  Comparing the two rotors :D

                    More progress,

Pulling the new Miata Studs through as I need longer studs with the new rotor

That is the current progress. I am using a 240sx rotor, and it seems to work ok with the stock caliper. I think I'll need to shave down some of the brake pads. The plan is to hunt down the escort 22v caliper and swap to a galant rotor which is the standard upgrade. This was more a test to see how it worked.

Also make some more progress on the suspension.

Rear top hats, as you can see they had a D shape hole but the new stocks are round. So out with the file and 5 mins later :D

                    Then came the sad part.

                    I started doing this:

Only to find out that the Upper Tranny mount is shot, and fell apart. So I think I am going to order some liquid polyurethane and fill the other three mounts. Then remake the tranny mount. So that was a minor bummer but such is life of an older car. Could be totally worse.

If any of you guys have a good photo of the upper tranny mount(one that bolts to the body) I need that. Or a detailed drawing, as I noticed the other mounts are not centered so I fear the tranny mount is the same. So I need to know where to drill the new hole once it has been filled with Poly.

And ending with how the poor girl currently sit

She's most likely crying that she can't play in the snow.

I'll look into that. Currently I am thinking of ordering the DIY liquid kit in 70a from energy suspensions

Small update. The motor is resting in the engine bay again :D. I haven't had much time to work on the car as of lately, you know the whole work, kids, prego wife and just life. =/.

I have been slowly working cleaning the vanish out of some of my fuel lines. Right now it seems like it's only in the hard lines of the fuel pump pick ups. I need to look more, but yea for that. Luckily seems like acetone dissolves the vanish quickly, so just more it takes a lot of time project then it requires a lot of hard work.

Oh I may have a lead on a set of BG AWD protege knuckles. I think the guy maybe on here, as the screen names are the same across the boards.

Ok, so I haven't updated here in a little bit, but I have been finding some time to work on the old girl.

Time for a Photo dump :D

First up, I installed the CorkSport Shifter Bushing(tranny side)

                            Old ones out:

Big Ass clamp helped to install them

all installed(should be tighter then :D)

Next up the whore of a 255 walbro. This pump has now been in three of my project cars, starting with my TSI AWD, then the Miata and now GTX. Unlike the other two cars, It wasn't plug and play, I had to cut the connector off as the GTX uses screw on connectors.

Next up some more photo showing the suspension mods.

Here is a good photo showing how much I had to move down the hole. Took a while with a hand file. I used cut off wheel to start but didn't want to remove that much metal, so it was my guide, and just hand filed the hole.

Another to show you how high the hole was to start

                            All of them finished:

                              On to this weekend's progress.

Mostly I was finding what i need to buy/get, but I did make some progress.

Driver side corner starting to be buttoned up. Still need to TQ the axle nut and bleed the brakes :D

Out side of that, I put the oil filter on, hooked up some more wiring, and bought transmission fluid, some hoses, clips and other such stuff. I still need to get a battery, and clean up the battery tray,

Here is the engine bay as of last night:

Also still trying to figure out some custom GTX style tag for the car. I haven't come up with much so if anyone has any ideas. :D
