The You tube video has some good info, and some useless stuff. I suppose I should have flushed the system properly but I just refilled it. There's also the problem of there being air in the system. When the engine idles, the heat blows cold. I'm going to give it a few days to see if it takes care of itself before I try to do anything.
Beware unhooking the hoses to the thermostat housing. The smaller hose will spill coolant all over if you're not careful. I wasn't careful.
If I was going to do it again, I think I would have flushed the system with some de-minerlized water before replacing the antifreeze with new, just for a sense of having done a proper repair and maintenance.
If you're wondering where the nut came from, I was missing one of the fasteners for the splash shield. Luckily, I can reach up through the hole for the oil filter and hold it while I install the bolt. One of the bolts for the thermostat is missing in that pic too.Last edited by 1st Gen; 03-30-2014, 12:05 PM.1991 Protege LX with GTX swap, DD1990 4WD Protege with GTX swap, Project/garage decoration2006 Mazda 3 with 2.3, Her car1980 Ford F100 Short bed with 300ci 6 cylinder, work truck/home for moss
