    4WD BJ Familia

This car is for sale where I'm from and I thought i would share with the BJ family. I'm actually considering to acquire this and sell my bpt engine swap BF 323 GT.

    Car info.
    2000 Mazda Familia
Bp 1800 turbo (Garrett T28) engine swap from z5 engine with automatic transmission.
    B5 5 speed gearbox (F series)
    ACT pp
4wd disc brake originally came with a drums @ the rear.
Face lift BJ fender, bonnet, head lamp & bumper conversion.
    RX7 4 pistons front caliper
    17" wheels
The bonus about this BJ, is that its the oem 4wd chassis. Perfect chassis for a MSP6 engine and drivetrain swap when your tired of the BP-T engine swap.

    Pictures.

    WRX seats.

As you can see most of the conversion to make this BJ a fun car is already done. This build setup would make it awesome sleeper that would have the evo & subbies owners in shock as to how this car is able to keep up with them in the twisties.

Very cool. that's crazy that it came with rear drums. All the 4wd bg chassis were disk brakes

Apologies bogaut. Did some double checking and found out that the car actually came with 4wd disc backend from factory. I mixed it up with the fwd BJ chassis that come with drum brake setup. The z5 powered 4wd BJ chassis along with the jdm sp20 4wd chassis do come with rear disc brakes.

It's factory 4wd. I've only come across 4 of these sedans here in Jamaica, but they all come with z5 engines & automatic transmission. I've only seen one jdm sp20 wagons that is 4wd & this comes with the jdm n/a fs motor but i don't recall if it's automatic or manual.

This is the jdm 4wd sp20 I'm referring about.

This is my friend MSP that made 400 whp on a built motor with CP pistons & K1 rods, Garrett gt3071 turbo, Haltech ems, upgraded fuel system, ACT clutch kit & Toyota gearbox conversion & other supporting mods. Car is tuned by the owner BGTuning.

I'm guessing this is yet another cool 4wd thing Mazda saw fit to not let us poor heathens in the US have...
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

Well then maybe we just aren't making the right sacrifices to the right Gods. I'm gonna buy a new WRX and burn it on the altar with an EVO shoved up it's arse and see what that gets us. This just ain't right....they would sell a boat load of those here.

I am now the owner of this 4WD BJ chassis. One thing I found out about this car is that it have a fwd box installed instead of the 4wd box. The owner went the fwd route due to challenges acquiring some main 4wd drivetrain components for the swap. My long term goal for this car is to have a 400+ whp machine. My main focus now is to get the little kinks in the car sorted out before taking on that 400+ whp target. I thous far sorted a few little issues that I've encountered since acquiring this car 2 days ago.

                1. My friends sorted out the clutch problem that i was encountering with the car as it would only go through the gears freely when the engine was off and I had to be make numerous attempts of pressing the clutch pedal in an attempt to get it in gear to move off once the engine is running. My friends fab'd up a longer threaded shaft with a nut on it as the adjuster for the slave cylinder and the car is way easier to shift thru gears. This is only a temp solution until i get a new slave cylinder.

                2. The engine had 2 different type of plug wires that I've exchange with a set of Magnecor 8.5mm plug wires.

                3. Cars was originally automatic, so it had the wide automatic brake pedal. It was nuisance @ times when I'm about change gears as my foot would make contact with the brake pedal when I'm stepping on the clutch pedal. I trimmed down the auto brake pedal on each side so that i could fit a manual brake pedal kit over it. No more interference since and I'm back to fuljoying my heel & toe down shifts.

As the days goes by I try to get in some time to address these issues whenever i get the chance.

Here are some pix that I took of the car & a short video clip at a local drag meet prior to purchasing it.

I'm appreciative of mods the previous owner had done thus far and will most definitely take it a step further. Next on my priority list is interior detailing, engine bay & under carriage wash.

Small update of what I've noticed and done since owning this car.

I recently found out that the 440cc GTR injectors are installed. The car is controlled with the bpt gtx computer and a Toyota airflow meter (don't know which as the vaf code is not visible). What I've notice about this package is that this setup allows the boost cut to kick in a little above 14 psi, so I installed the hks evc to turn it down below the 14 psi so i can fuljoy the car a little more without boosting all the way till the boost cut kicks in before hitting the rev limit.

The car also have modified WRX front coilovers installed and another coilover setup on the rear which I don't have the specs on at the moment.

Here is a small rundown of what I've done thus far.

Got and engine wash after which the car started missing for about day.
Cleaned the interior with Tuff Stuff. I must say the car interior now have cleaner look to it that i don't feel so bad about.
Trimmed the automatic brake pedal, so no more pressing brake pedal by accident when passing the clutch pedal.
                          Installed a HKS EVC.
Changed the the spark plug wires to Magnecor 8.5mm plug wires.
Installed BG GTX front strut tower bar (after a little slotting of the bolt holes).
Replaced the release bearing car wasn't going into gear when the clutch was pressed while the engine was running after numerous attempts of adjusting the rod in the slave cylinder & the old pilot bearing because a few bearings was missing upon inspection.

                          Things need addressing.

Air condition need addressing as the Garrett t28 turbo dp sits close to ac compressor, so close that a piece of card board can't pass between them freely.

Connect the reverse light to the f series gearbox which I'm having challenges locating the original bj connecter for the previous transmission.

Having some electrical issues as the positive battery terminal gets extremely hot to the point that car stumbles and shuts when it comes to stop at a stop light or in traffic, but it starts up same time whenever i try to start it back.

Install a muffler as the car is currently running with straight through 2.5" exhaust. Although I kind of luv the sound of the open 2.5" exhaust, it tends to draw attention wherever i go.

Speedometer not working & the rev clock needle doesn't rev smoothly throughout the rev band, it vibrates as it climbs.

These are just some of the challenges I'm currently encountering.
