    The most absurd bump-stop thread ever.

    tl;dr
    *How much bump stop have you removed?
    *What section was it(top, bottom)?
    *How are you liking it?

    I searched 4 pages of the suspension section with the keywords bump stop and cut and was rather disappointed. I'm replacing my struts this weekend(hopefully) and was just wondering where everyone else was cutting their bump-stops at. I currently only have a drivers side bump that looks more distressed than intentionally cut and the passenger side one is gone(probably why it's completely blown.)

    Below is my guesstimate of where my one remaining front stop was cut{the blue line}, I don't really like that location as it removes the smallest internal section of the bump-stop{the black line} that would be responsible for holding it in place at the top of the strut. The lower area also has the most "give" of any part of bump-stop which would be less of an initial impact on the strut when the car does bottom.

    The picture below is where I plan to cut the new one{orange line}
    According to my good enough for government work calipers the center of the first portion would be approximately 1" removed. Which I think would be adequate for both not hitting it too soon on a 1.5" drop and still providing enough cushion.

    When I did mine a number of years ago, I cut about where your orange line is. This was for an Eibach/ S/R combo. If you can remember far enough back SCC magazine did this to the project B13 Sentra IIRC.

      I've tried looking up that article but haven's had any luck, the older Sentra forums overall seem to recommend 2 "doughnuts" which looks to be about 1.5 inches+ on their stops. It seems excessive, but I imagine they have less stock front suspension travel(3in) than us. Hell I can't even find the stock bg suspension travel, not even the gtr supplement mentions it.

        Try looking on Motoiq.com

        A lot of the old SCC guys contribute there.

          I cut mine at your blue line. The dust boot will hold the bump stop up.

              I hit them regularly on the bad highways here and sometimes while mountain driving.

              I know I was hitting them in the bends because the car would just start plowing with no real warning and would stop doing so with the slightest modulation of the brakes or throttle.

              Also the fact my passenger front bump-stop is missing and due to that completely blown compared to the "useable" drivers side which has one also reinforces that they're getting used.
