Need moar info on your setup but if you are on a map, erratic idle is almost always a fuel map issue. This is assuming everything else is shipshape. i've dealt with, let's see...5 different standalone ECU's now and none of them are really good at just getting adle down without having to babysit them. Even if you flatten out the idle curves, if the O2 sensor doen't like what it smells, the ecu starts hunting across rows and sometimes columns, and does what you describe. So you get to go into the table and futz with it til it behaves. The fact that it doesn't always do it implies that not all else is shipshape however. air leaks can happen after the TB.
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

So what, everythinv else stock? ecu, maf and all? If so then it's almost certainly an air leak somewhere twwen the maf and the head. I can't look ag your zip files at the moment cuz my file opener is ***ing at the moment...

Prolly fuel map, and that can be a real PITA to fix. I got the ralycar to behave by the simple expedient of bringing it to an AWD dyno shop with staff who knew WTF they were going. I plan on saving time with the street car by taking it to the same outfit once it's up and running.
