    $3,500 OBO

This was Mazda's homologation car to compete in Group A rally in the late 1980s. There were only 1,243 GTX's ever sold in the United States. There are even less registered on the streets today.

It has a lot of great upgrades that were popular at the time. The car runs great, engine is strong and will run 15psi boost all day. I keep it set at 12psi around town. This car does have it's issues and quirks. It's a 26 y/o car...

Here is the list of goodies it has:
    1988 Mazda 323 GTX 4WD Turbo DOHC 1.6L 16Valve
    approx 190,000 miles
    White/Gray
Full Time 4WD w/ center diff locking
    Good clutch
    Power Windows (passenger side slow)
    Power Door Locks
Was an Air Conditioning car but it was removed (do not have parts)
    Sunroof
DP Engineering wheels (15x6.5 36mm offset)
    Tokico Dirtra Struts all around
    Mazdaspeed front solid swaybar
Newer IHI RHB5-VJ14 turbo off a Japanese 40k mile engine
    HKS EVC I Boost controller
HKS Catless Downpipe w/ EGT port - includes stock downpipe with working cat
    HKS Intake
    HKS boost gauge
    HKS PFC F-CON
    HKS catback
    HKS turbo timer
    Momo steering wheel
    factory Recaro Seats
    MSD coil
    Bosch BOV conversion
    Porterfield R4S front/rear brake pads
Goodridge stainless steel braided brake lines
    No Rust (except on sunroof)

Let me annotate the background of this vehicle as well as I can.

In 2008 my good friend was looking for a GTX. He used to have one a long time ago and was feeling nostalgic. I helped him locate this car which was for sale on Sturtevant and ClubProtege. The previous owner purchased the car with a couple blown valves and he replaced the head and put on a low mileage JDM turbo (VJ14). Here is the list of items we received from him that was replaced:

Newer IHI RHB5-VJ14 turbo off a Japanese 40k mile engine
Remanufactured cylinder head with new seals
    New alternator
    New NGK plug wires
Front wheel bearings (Timken bearings and all new seals)
    new front rotors

The car was driven back from LA to the San Francisco bay area. We took the car to Rotorsport (Mazda shop) and they "went through" the car. After replacing the brake master cylinder and various intake gaskets he was given a thumb up and he used it for a couple years to commute around. After moving to Fort Collins, CO (2010), the car sat in the garage. We ended up replacing the gauge cluster to fix a defective speedo. The original mileage read approx 186,000 miles, and the cluster we swapped it was set around 155,000 miles. The car reads about 157,800 now. This means the car currently has about 190,000 miles. This probably doesn't look kindly on the carfax, oh well. We also replaced the ignition switch due to an intermittent starting problem that we found had nothing to do with the key.

Since the car was sitting, he decided to sell last year and I jumped on the opportunity. When I picked up the car I decided to go through and add a few more things:

    Bosch BOV conversion
    New starter
    Re manufactured distributor
    Porterfield R4S front/rear pads
    Re-manufactured front calipers
I had plans to keep it and slowly find all the odds and ends it needed. I quickly realized this is just not feasible for me to do at this point. Rather than it sit in my garage I decided to let another enthusiast to enjoy it.

    Issues:

I'd be silly to say this car is perfect.

    Exterior:
Lots of rock chips up front
    Bumpers are faded
Someone tried to fill a hole in the roof (maybe it was another antenna?)
Dent in the hatch (at the top)
Small dents in both sides of the body
    Sunroof has rust
Wheels have curb rash (worst one is pictured)
    Crack in the windshield

    Interior:
Missing a couple small interior pieces (even though I spent a lot of time collecting the ones we didn't have)
Driver seat is starting to come apart, Passenger seat has a paint stain.
One of the previous owners installed some weird sound system, it was removed leaving strange speaker holes in places where it's not stock
    No radio

    Mechanical:
Passenger front CV has a ripped boot
Small oil leak (couple drops on the garage floor)
Rear shocks are getting older (Tokico Dirtas) and probably need to be rebuilt
Gas Gauge has sender issue (will fall to E after 3-4 gallons used. Low fuel light still works)
Passenger side power window is slow

I tried to represent the car as honestly as I can. Please contact me with any other questions.

    Thanks.
