    Learn me mx-3.

Ok so I recently acquired a used MX-3 GS that needs an engine replaced and I have a KLDE from a 95 MX-6 that will be replacing the blown K8 that is currently in the car.

This car will be given to my parents for them to drive so the mods that get done will be simple stuff/bolt-ons for the engine. Suspension, brakes and body will be left stock.

I have been digging around other forums for what to do with this thing and I have a few things am curious about

1: Ryan told me about doing the MAF conversion which I am considering, but if I don't go that route should I just keep the K8 ECU and VAF or get the 2.5 stuff and chip it?

2: I found some used KLZE pistons, which I may consider installing but am unsure yet.

3:HEI mod is on my list for reliability reasons

4: It appears to me that the K8 manifold has some small runners compared to the KLDE. I need to get an MX6 brake booster to be able to run the KLDE, so is it worth the trouble?

5: Will the ZX2 exhaust piping kit fit an MX3?

6: How about using the K8 heads to just bump the compression on the KL? Anyone tried this before? I have seen this done in the Nissan world before with their V8's

Any other suggestion/comments or things I am missing please let me know.

I can't answer all of these but I can answer a few.

About the ECU stuff the general consensus I have heard from v6 guys is to pair up the VAFs and ECU from the cars which they came from and go with which one runs better. Most seem to have different results and claim one pairing works well while the other doesn't and four other guys will have completely different ideas. Everyone whos done the Maf swap says its worlds better though so if it's in the budget/time crunch/etc I'd say go for it.

HEI mod, do this, do this, do this, do this, do this. These distys are ****ing ****. Also consider swapping the hydraulic tensioner for a king6 manual one or make your own. Those are crappy too.

Also you should be able to run the DE manifold with the MX3 booster if it's a "curved neck" manifold. The KLZE comes with a "straight neck" manifold which is the one you need the booster for. Lots of guys run the K8 mani anyway though, if you don't care about power loss you can use that.

Is teh Zx2 exhaust piping the same as a Pro/EGT? If so it will bolt up but you will have ten inches or so of extra piping as teh K8 y pipe goes back all of the way to where a BPs cat ends(if looking front to back). If it doesn' match the BP one I can't tell you for sure but I'd doubt it.

any state side KL you'll be able to just drop right in. In the event your worried. pick up a millenia intake manifold & you'll have no problems clearing it. (this is what i did with mine.)
If you pickup a set of thermal spacers for the intake manifold you can also taper them from round to square to match the millenia manifold. I highly encourage this. the spacers alone make a vast improvement.

pickup a set of headers but be prepared to slightly tweak a few things getting them to fit.
block off any EGR **** you might find.

This KL is from an MX6/626 so it has a straight neck. From the looks of it, i would rather find a millenia manifold than modify an mx6 booster to fit. I have to get a few other items from a millenia anyway.

The ZX2 exhaust will fit my second gen escort so I am sure it will fit a protege, so I guess it will fit the MX3 with length adjustment.
