    XelderX MX-3 Worklog

I don't think I've posted about it yet, but I picked up a friends MX-3 over the summer. I'm daily driving it at the moment so it doesn't really get a lot of "work" done to it. I do have some questions about it though that some of you might be able to help me with, but first....the pictures.

As you can see it's got a BP swap along with manual seatbelts, Erebuni wing...etc. It came with tones of spares including a rear disk brake conversion that I haven't had time to install.

It does need some TLC as the pictures make it look a lot better than it really is.

I don't have any recent pictures of it. I've been so busy on a few of the other cars in my arsenal. This one has the BP and G Series swap, but it doesn't have the intermediate shaft. Is there an issue with the intermediate shaft/axle length on the MX-3 w/ BP swap? Can I just put in an intermediate shaft and if so...which axle as well?

It belonged to a friend of mine from Atlanta. Not sure if he was a member here, but it wouldn't surprise me.

um...... no intermediate shaft.... that usually means its an F series transmission & not a G.
if it was a 4cyl stock. i would not be surprised if he kept the trans only.
to get equal length axels with a F series = automatic BP halfshaft & normal BP pass axel combo.

My girlfriend took it to work today, so I'll look at the trans when she gets home.

The front and rear bumpers both need to be resprayed. The front lip has cracked, but I riveted it back together. I have a brand new front lip to put on, but I'm waiting. There are some dings and dents. The driver's seat needs a new cover. Just minor things I'll get around to eventually.

Just verified that it is an F series trans. Guess I'll add that to my list of things to fix.

^ i wouldn't worry about it that much. if it breaks then stress. not likely to become an issue.
If you dont' feel like changing the trans weld that stupid diff pin like we do on the G series & you won't have any issues.

I've got a spare G Series and I want to eventually put a LSD in it. For now the F series is fine, but the torque steer is annoying.

I've got a set of K Sport coilovers on the way that I got from a friend. They came off his Probe which was totalled quite spectacularly at Summit Point last year. The car has OEM style struts with what I think are Eibach springs. It's too soft for the ride height and the struts terrible feeling. I'll get some pictures of the install once they get here next week.

Not much of an update, but trying to keep motivation and fix some things. The Ksport coilovers that are on the way are probably going to go on my other roadrace Protege. With the current springs on them they will be too stiff for daily driving. The non-adjustable coilovers that are currently on the roadrace car will go on the MX-3. I'll get some pictures of those once they are off the car. They were custom built by ISC and I'm not really sure what they have in them.

There is also a bad vibration in the car at highway speeds. I originally thought it was a wheel out of balance, but it now seems to be something in the suspension. I'm guessing it's a control arm bushing, but it's tough to tell. I'm ordering a set of SuperPro LCA bushings. It may not fix the issue, but I can at least eliminate the bushings as a suspect and move on. I'm hoping that the coilovers and new bushings tighten up the front of the car a little. It's really tough climbing out of the autoX 323 with the nice coilovers and Delrin bushings into something with stock bushings and stock shocks.
