BTW, thanks for the heads up about the gasket sealer. It's a bit too late though. The black seems to be working fine.

      those pistons are 10:1

the motor should be a rocket!!! don't be surprised if you break past 35mpg+ on an average basis

i kinda figured id be late to the game on the gasket spray. but its a good tip in the future- for just about any paper gasket. nothing wrong with some ultra black tho either.

Wait? Is this okay? I have a GTX ECU?
If I get the head shaved, will I have to worry about interference?

im well over 10:1 with my FE3 & no problems.
since you already have those pistons installed rock with it.
the GTX ecu will be fine. if your concerned about it - put the timing at OEM base (10°) - do you have the OEM knock sensor wired in??

no you do not have to worry about interference. you can shave over 40 thousandths off before you start to get towards interference.

I've already got the ARP studs so I guess I'm good to go.

If you don't want to buy a tool you can use a socket filled with grease with an extension on top and hit it with a hammer. The grease will catch the retainers, but you would still need a real tool to do reassembly. Lisle tool is well worth the money, use it and resell it if you don't want it.

A couple of weeks ago my Netfix service stopped working. I called the Credit Union and found out that I was on fraud alert. Yea, somebody was making unauthorized charges on my account and they shut it down. It's not a huge deal, but I do have to wait for a new card to make that purchase from Amazon. They don't seem to accept PP. I'm working a lot too which means I kind of have to take a break from the project anyway.

trying to source an A-code VAF, still trying, still trying

Got the Lisle today, got the lapper tool yesterday, get the compound tomorrow, and this is my Friday. If everything goes well, I should have the head down to the machine shop by the end of the week. He's probably going to tank it before he shaves it so I'll wait until then to do any work on it.

Got an A code VAF coming. Might buy an extension tool for the Dremel to make porting easier. I still need to research how to do this. I saw one video on it in double speed. I'm pretty sure there's a lot I missed. I've also got a new set if miniature files for making Somender Grooves. The quench zone is so small on these pistons though. I need to do more research here too.
                          Ah, time for work.

how much did you source the A code vaf for??

you are going to have it tanked then port it? ( thats a certain luxury sir!!! ) it helps to be able to see what your porting lol.
i think you are misunderstanding the quench zone..... you have more of a quench zone on the new pistons then you ever did with the prior dished pistons.
your grooving the head not the pistons--- just to clarify

PS youre going to love that lisle tool!

I think I lucked out on the A code. I picked one up $50. One guy was trying to sell me one for $135. That seems a bit steep to me.

I tried carb cleaner but it just isn't good enough. I'm going pull the valves out tonight so I can get it in the shop by tomorrow. When I get it back cleaned and shaved, I'll see what I can do about some mods.

jon, please see your text messages. its critical you don't shave the cylinder head first, just in case you make an "oops"

nice score on the A code!!
