    Mazda clutch/transmission probs

So I've got a manual 2002 Mazda Protege Lx with about 130xxx miles on it. Got it for 800 on Craigslist and don't know the car's history. It's actually in really good shape aside from my serpentine belt snapping and my clutch is stuck in 3rd or 2nd gear. Literally can't shift to neutral or anything, I checked out my master and slave cylinder and they seem to be working properly. My clutch engages and I never smelled it burning but there is a lot of play in it. I'm pretty much at the point where I'm just gonna grab a clutch kit if necessary and a new flywheel if it doesn't include it. How do I go about dropping the tranny and taking the housing off to see exactly what is wrong. (Know of any good sites with step by step instructions and just pretty much any tips and advice on buying the best clutch kit and best process of dropping the tranny and figuring out wtf is going on. Thanks mazda community, I appreciate it.
