    transmission

I have a 01'protege mp3, the trans is stock so I don't have the number of it,but had a drip from pan(was just annoying) so pulled pan and cleaded it up and mating surface was putting pan back on and this little (am guessing oiler trough)plastic piece broke! now as far as I can tell it just shoots oil to the pan side and then is picked up ? since this is basically splash lubrication is it a huge deal as long as the fluid is at right level?am rebuilding engine and new clutch at tax time so just need to know not a big deal for a couple of months?thanks in advance for any input....

well I know what the part is called,it's an oil passage trough p/n G56017540A also has ford p/nF32Z-7A174-A, so I can get part but can't find a breakdown on transmission anywhere on do I have to take out trans to replace it? want to do engine and clutch in future, but don't want to drop tranny just replace this little plastic part!any suggestions would be helpful...

I would recommend replacing it... looking at pictures and thinking back i believe this thing feeds oil to 5th gear. You may be fine without it for a while but it's a gamble... you could potentially get stuck in 5th gear during a long highway journey etc.

Yea that feeds the fifth gear you have to remove the transmission housing not really a big deal specially if you plan on rebuilding the engine and putting a clutch in just pull everything out at the same time.

do worry about it. the plastic ones break all the time: if you accidentally sneeze on them, look at em wrong, or fart in its general direction it'll break. the majority of the flow direction is still pointing into the 5th gear end cover & thats the critical point.

the early model mazda transmissions had this made of steel. FYI

Just took apart the tranny on Scrat a 91 EGT recent purchase and it has a metal one.
