So over the passed couple months I've been working on collecting parts

Knowing that one day in a couple years I plan to do a RWD conversion I've been keeping an eye out for a donor Miata and I got a killer deal on a beat Miata so the strip down process began

These Miata parts will be stashed away for later use

Until I'm ready to start a RWD conversion, I still want to drive the wagon and even though it already has a B6T I'm going to pull it out in favour of a KLG4 so the next step is to find a donor car

        A 2000 626 with a 5 speed

        The goods

And it's almost ready to come out

The plan for now is to simply get it up and running and plated.... Possibly with a custom intake..... Then after driving it for a bit I want to try a COP conversion with the KLG4 electronics (the main reason why I chose a G4 to swap in)

I'd say Toyota COPs would be ideal but you'd need to change the dwell time. They don't like to dwell at 7ms like most Mazda coils do.

Also, subbed - Very curious to see this develop.

I actually have a set of Toyota coils already, but how would I change the dwell time? This is something I didn't even think of

Not sure why I said 7, I knew better.

The link is to a dwell reducer circuit on a diy board. Fairly straightforward. There have been mixed results with the Miata crowd using yota COPs on stock ECUs. A friend of mine recently went through four sets of Toyota COPs in a couple months because the factory dwell kept burning them up. Finally gave up and went back to the factory packs. I always dwell mine at 2.5 on my turbo Miatas (using megasquirt ms2x)

What would thoughts be towards using the KJ coils on the KLG4?

Pulled the B6T out of the wagon today

Since I've worked on KL's in tight engine bays before, I counted on having clearance issues with the KLG4 intake/throttle body and master cylinder and since this engine bay has more room in it then my old festiva, I figured if there's enough room to work with, I'll move the engine forward to clear the MC so it was time for a test fit so I can see exactly what I'm working with

And like I anticipated the throttle linkage interferes with the MC

It looks like I can move the engine forward by 2-1/2 inches and I should still have enough room for the rad

You need to get Rocketman to make a snazzy TB adapter that hooks to the front.

Nah, I'm sure I can just make the mounts so the throttle linkage has plenty of room to move lol
