The car will still need some sorting after Foofighter takes delivery of it, so don't be pestering him for ripper videos or anything yet. Much as it pains me to say, i am NOT delivering the car in anything resembling driveable condition, but the hard work is done and all (almost all) the sins of the previous shops/owners has been corrected. We just ran out of time, money and skill/equipment (in 2 of the parts.)

Things that still need to be sorted, and i will be helping him with as i can, so if anyone here has input on how to handle some/all of them, that would be awesome. Would make both our lives easier.

    1) Rear brake hard lines need to be replaced. I didn't mess with figuring out a mounting solution for the junction block back there since the lines would be replaced anyways. Does anyone else have pictures of how they handled the junction block with the Pierce subframe?

    2) Cooling system. As outlined in a previous post, the previous shop didn't understand how cooling systems worked, which is why the motor blew. Currently i didn't fix any of it, because imo the easiest way to add a functional pressure vent to the system is to weld/tap a nipple at the filler pipe between the heads, and run a pressure cap at that location. I don't have the tools/skills necessary to do that in a way that i'd feel comfortable with. Otherwise, i'd be cobbling together a new expansion/filler tank with a pressure cap, running to a standard overflow. This would involve figuring out new radiator hoses, and that point i'd just as soon put a different radiator in this car as well. This could easily cost $400-500, whereas adding a vent should cost $50 or less. Anyone have input? Or anecdotes regarding running the Neon radiator this car seems to have?

    3) Rear swaybar: Needs Energy suspension 9.5156 or 9.5124 installed. I've already talked with Foofighter and i'll be making a trip down to his place in the future to handle this.

    4) Front and rear swaybars: Didn't find out until last night that the car has MX3 swaybars on it. This is neat, but.... means the endlinks we all had put together for use with Pierce arms don't work. I'll have to do some research and put together something that works. I suspect some of the shorter Miata endlinks will work, but i'll have to do some digging. Will install during future visit.

    5) Front 4pt tie brace: I could put this on now, but it hangs low and i've got to get this thing on a trailer today or tomorrow. Will install during future visit.

    6) Alignment: This thing is going to be so far out of alignment it isn't funny. Even if the setup was ok-ish from the Escort (It wasn't, the alignment shop i paid for setup screwed me), this car has different subframes and is slightly bent in seemingly different ways from the Escort.

    7) Battery: King6Fab upper trans mount doesn't have provision for battery tray. Car either needs a relocation or (my recommendation), a LiPo batter from Advance for about $140, weighs under 2lbs, will crank the car hard, and can be strapped on the frame rail behind the overflow tank. Lighter and easier than a relocation.

    Less Pressing:
    1) Figure out how to get a working speedo in the car. Suspect it'll just be jamming all mechanical speedo stuff in the MX3 trans.
    2) Get tach to be accurate. I suggested a Dakota Digital unit

Overall, this is going to be a cool car when it's sorted.

mechanical speedo is probably the easiest way to go

I run a Deka ETX30L battery in my ****box Nissan, it's from some dumb Harley- they're like $100, are small enough to fit in what's left of a 240's battery tray after you've hacked it up for intercooler piping, and never fails to start the car... and this is with the car being in CT and me in FL. it gets started/driven twice a year maybe, and I don't keep it on a tender or any of that bull****, it rules.

also those quarter window vents are probably the greatest product that guy ever made and I want your NB very badly.

Yeah there's tons of options for batteries.

Advance Auto Parts is your source for quality auto parts, advice and accessories. View car care tips, shop online for home delivery, or pick up in one of our 4000 convenient store locations in 30 minutes or less.

This is what i run in the Miata. Cranks it harder than a stock battery.

BTW the car runs. It's angry. Has a slight exhaust leak or two causing a little bit of a ticking noise. Haven't been able to set idle or distributor due to cooling issues preventing me from running the motor long enough for warm idle. That said, with the way this mofo is revving, pretty clear i did my timing stuff right.

Sorry for the late update. Car is back! Huge thanks to Ben for everything! Couldn't have done it without him. It really sucks to find everything wrong with the car when it was with him. I was shocked to here some of the shoddy work Auto-Motion did. This is the problem with not being very knowledgeable like I am. It was a huge gamble, and it ended up costing me big! I'll try and use this as another learning experience.

Right now, I'm really just trying to save up money to finish what's left that needs to been done with the car. I've been getting nowhere near as many work hours I was expecting so far this year, and my other car has also been draining my bank account. Things just haven't been working in my favor.

            Ok, rant OVER! lol!

Also, no idea what's going on with all my photos. Photobucket seems to be holding all of them hostage. I'm currently trying to restore all of them. If anyone has any easy solutions, please let me know

Photobucket has changed their policy and now you need to upgrade your account to host from photobucket to another site. Time to switch, I need to do a similar thing as I was using photobucket too.

Hey guys, having trouble finding something.

Appears that people are running the Neon radiator without really thinking through what that means for their cooling system.

Years ago i had seen someone that had tapped the fill housing between the heads for a vent nipple, and then used a vented radiator cap in that location. Ran that to an expansion tank. Does anyone know what i'm talking about? And if so, can they point me to that thread?

If not, the only thing i can think of doing to keep using the Neon radiator is to find an aftermarket (maybe Moroso has something) inline vented filler tank that happens to have the right diameter inlet/outlet to match Neon/KL, then go through the pain in the ass of trying to route the lines in the really tight space that's there.

Please help, it's the last really big hurdle to this car at this point.

Yeah i mean... i have the Griffin radiator that works, but i don't think anyone ever figured out how to mount it without cutting up the grill/headlights. Which i personally didn't care about on my car, but we care about on this car.

hey Ben, I'm admittedly an idiot (and also haven't searched for that thread) but it seems to me that the simplest thing to do would be to add a bung to that filler housing, use a non-venting cap there, and run that to a regular breather tank/swirl pot with a vented cap on it?

That's what i'd do if it were my car, except i'd turn the filler cap into a vented cap. The trick is finding someone to do it. I can't weld, the housing is kinda thin so tapping it is high risk.

Someone else did that before, i just can't find the damn thread. It's probably buried in years of asking how to slam on ebay coilovers.

I'm sure there's a few dozen in his city, but i don't live there.

But yeah, that was my suggestion. Kinda peeved i can't find the thread i'm thinking of for reference so he has something to show a shop, though.
