I don't think I've mentioned this yet, but I switched jobs. I know work at Autopart International. We deliver OE parts to garages and shops. No more paying retail for car parts!

Haven't done too much on the car in the last year, but I started working on changing the rear brakes to some slightly bigger ones last week, and I got to loving the BG again.
Today I bought a bunch of parts from a guy who'd bought them all to build a Miata. He had a friend helping assemble the engine, and I guess they didn't get a piston straight enough to line up with the crank, so it was lifted to rotate it, and when this happened, a ring popped out without them noticing. Anyway, the ring damaged the block, and put a small (hopefully) cosmetic scuff in the piston just above the oil ring. He got discouraged and sold it all to me.

                I got:
2000 cylinder head - Resurfaced, valves lapped, professionally assembled
                Supertech valvetrain
                Eagle Rods
                Wiseco pistons
Freshly machined crank (just polished journals)
                ACL race bearings
                Full Arp set
                Boundary engineering oil pump
                Gates racing timing belt
                Super Miata water pump
                Cometic head gasket
                Full seal kit
                Brand new MBSP
                Powder coated valve cover
                Harmonic balancer
                New timing idlers
                Oil pan
                2000 Intake manifold
2000 block - bored and decked - damage to one cylinder.. This block may get used with bigger pistons as a backup engine, or just scrapped.

The guy had receipts for everything, including the machine work. I think I got a pretty good deal.

                Here's the piston damage

OUCH!!! folded oil ring? can you feel that in the block? or can it possibly be re-honed??
you will need a new piston

discovered a few weeks ago that driving BG-chassis cars for so long has created some bad habits

went into a roundabout slightly too hot and felt the front end wash out a bit. quickly lifted to get the car to rotate, forgetting that my car has:

                    -no rear sway bar
-double wishbone/multi-link rear suspension instead of TTL/trailing arms

so instead of rotating, the car continued to push until it had traction again. I've owned this thing for months and still can't figure out why people love them so much.

Next time, go to a busy dive bar and give them a pre-paid debit card.

                                Why are you so nerdy?

Aren't double wishies better for DDing? As in protecting the axle from flying sh**?
I've read that TTLs/Trailing arms are better in racing applications, allowing for easier adjustments, and also the "feel" is more natural, sort of how the tendency of a car to go into understeer vs. oversteer with respect to how "natural" it feels to the driver when you start to plow.

I dunno, I for some reason keep drifting on exit circles in the BG, and it feels very natural to me. I think I've started getting the hang of FF cars. Plus, unlike grandpa who grew up with FR cars, it feels natural to me.

And get some rear sway and strut bars. Stop trying to Takumi everywhere
