It's like american parts distributors have no idea what is going on. Sigh...

I guess I'll get to compare the 91-93 escort GT (technafit) and the 94 pro stainless steel lines. Probably will stick with the goodridge when they come as I've had them before and liked them but we'll see.

Now that rotors and lines will be here, need to decide where I want to source calipers from... I stopped using rockauto with the miata when they sent me bad calipers 3 times in a row.

Might be doing struts tommorow and depending on when the lines get here; brakes this weekend. Tranny is also shifting like crap lately so I might also do a fluid flush; too bad I can't get redline locally

You should always check with the dealer, most people assume they are more expensive and they usually are but not always. When the coil pack went out on my Miata the dealer was the cheapest by more than $100. The last brake job on the wife's suburban, GM was very competitive on price and much higher quality. As for your "adjuster" on the MAF; I checked my 91 Pro (4wd) and it did not have one. That part of the MAF is where the door goes as it opens at higher air flow; maybe it is a stop to keep door from opening too far.

its a spring bolt to deaden the shock of the door slamming open. its far too small of a VAF from factory IMHO. there must have been some sort of glitch where adding that in would have corrected/smoothed out the VAF reading

So did some work. Water pump and alt. went out so had to get them replaced. Also decided on having a shop swap out the rack and do an alignment. It wasn't bad for $700.00 including tie rod ends.

          First did some suspension refreshing:

They are KYB's "strut plus" line. They are the Excel-Gs prepackaged with a fully assembled coilover strut. They are about 400 bucks If I remember correctly. Made in Japan.

Then I did some brake upgrades.

I ended up using the SS lines from Technafit, as the Goodridge ones did NOT come with a teflon sleeve. Good small company; if you have an issue you get right through to the owner.

The rotors I nabbed off Tirerack, who (I didn't know) is carrying much more than tires. I tried getting the slightly better rotors from the proper later model Protege, but it was just a mess to try and order.

The calipers, although working great, were absolutely NOT galvanized. And as you can see rusting like and AE86. I'm starting to see why all of RockAuto's calipers are a shiny gold, even though it's ugly, that is what the budget manufactures use to zinc plate.

I am not sure what I'm going to do about the calipers. I have POR15 and topcoat, but it is going to be a big annoying project, and I do not want to bleed the lines again.
Considering powder coating the old ones and rebuilding them.

Also did this weird experiment where I took old steering wheel leather and cut it, edging it on the inside and outside with epoxy to an old intake inlet I cut off:

My idea was to create a better vacuum after I removed the resonance box above the rad. I thought If I plugged that hole up, it would lead to a better vacuum through the stock tube. My next plan is to try and tighten up the linkage between the two plastic pipes leading to the front bumper inlet.

I've never really understood why people cut the bottom of the air box sucking in all the hot engine bay air..

the stock airbox is a restriction thus butchering it. honestly....in NA form it doesn't matter

Maybe true, but I think if I can upgrade the VAF to one that allows more airflow combined with getting cooler air instead of hot bay air it would be a significant improvement.

What exactly is so bad about the stock airbox? It doesn't seem any different than any other JDM stockie box.

create a hole in the fender & design a scoop if you want cool air

Replaced all the shift bushings and bolt with fancy brass ones from Corksport. I was completely missing two on the tranny side, shifting is much more direct now.

Still trying to figure out a good ratio of ft-lbs in torque on those two 12mm nuts. The tranny side says 12 ft-lbs, and the shifter side has 12-16 ft-lbs.
Unfortunately both are at 12 and the shifting is still to stiff; will be slowly easing off in half increments starting with the shifter side I guess.

Widen the fork where the bushing are with a screw driver before trying to torque them down. As when the old bush wear down people crank down on them and close the gap. When I replaced mine on the BHA I couldn't even get both bush in on first pass.

I'd run nyloc nuts on them as well because **** those things and their affinity for coming off if not red locktited

It was quite an ordeal, not with the inserting of the bushings, but inserting the bolts into the bushings. The bolts I had to reuse were flared just before the threads; had to dremel them flush with the rest of the bolt.

Ohhhhhh now I see. Actually widen the fork itself, IE increase the space between the inside of the two sides of the fork.

                                I'm smart.

Would you happen to have measured the gap the last time you f***ed around with it?
