First thing I did was get a full new OEM lock set. It's not a hard job, just takes patience and some locks are more of a hassle than others. Plus mad tyte OEM key goodness with tag.

Also finally figured out my auto locking issue. the lock rods were bent in 2/4 doors. I bent them back, but scrumm gave me some nice ones I have yet to put in. It's so nice to just be able to turn the key now and have everything lock instead of explaining to passengers why my door locks have a mind of their own.

        This was the culprit:

I also got a Carbing strut bar on Ebay a few months back. They had posted "BG" in the title, but this is obviously the one for BJs. After realizing fitment was poor, there is a super old thread describing that Carbing only supported the BJ chassis (of course).

I also got a pretty blue AGM Bosch battery which is fairly light and has decent CCA rating. I ended up cutting off some OEM ground wire from the parts car as I needed a longer cable and did my first solder. Looks like crap but everything turned out well. Also stole a nicer battery tray from the DX. I love having a parts car. Used platinum Rockford Fosgate terminals; I love these things, they're like my 3rd set. Lastly, firmly planted the battery down with a bungee until I order the OEM bracket.

Maintenance wise the car has given me a ton of problems.

The first issue was my waterpump just litterally destroyed itself. Not surprising as the previous owner did this, and quite poorly.

After that I blew a heater hose.

Then I blew the TB coolant hose (had no idea coolant ran through there).

Then the Compressor failed. I had a shop do that one for warranty. We went through about 4 bad Compressors, and for some reason only the SOHC compressors were refurbished properly, So that's what we stuck on.

Then the alternator issues started. I'm on my 3rd alternator right now, and I've lost more alt. belts then I can count. Originally I thought the lack of a bolt in the WP pulley (had 2/3) was causing vibration at high RPM and maybe loosening the belt, because no matter how tight the belt was, it would always loosen itself. When I blew my last belt on the highway, I limped to some shop and they put another one on. They tightened it real tight, and before they put it on, I spun the WP pulley which had no play, noise, or resistance. The alt pulley was good like this as well.

Now I haven't had my charge light intermittently come on, or anything like that, but I have noticed the belt seems it is getting loose again. It was extremely taught (almost no deflection) before, and now there is some minor movement. Probably not loose yet, but seems as though it's loosening. Hopefully, it is just trying to sit happily where it wants to and remain at it's most likeable tautness..

It may be time to do the MPV upgrade as it gives you a better tightening allowance. I don't know what else it could be, the only other thing would be the 3rd (oil) pulley that the alt belt runs on. But if this was off in some way, it would also affect the P/S belt which also rides on it, and I have had no issues there as of yet. Or I else the alt could be bad again, but jesus christ autozone.

The other weird issue I'm having is that when my A/C is switched on, it causes BOTH the A/C fan and the Rad fan to stop after about 20-30 seconds. It's very strange, I just sat there watching as they would run, stop together for a little, then run again, then stop together. So I'm assuming the A/C is somehow shorting these guys out. Sound familiar to anyone? When I have A/C off, it doesn't do this.

Lastly I need motor mounts. I was playing with the throttle, shooting it up in RPMs in the engine bay and saw the vibration in excessive amounts. the motor just dances at high RPM. So I'll need new motor mounts soon. As I like OEM, I searched online but could not find anything in the Mazda catalog. So we'll have to keep looking there.

Also having a higer idle, not sure if the TPS just needs adjustment or what.

At random start ups it sometimes throws out some white smoke in the tail pipe, it's extremely intermittent.

Other than that she's still daily driving me around. Black interior swap is almost complete. Guess I'll post pictures up at some point.

            Never change Ian.

Is the AC compressor popping off after the fans go off? You might be hitting the low/high pressure cut out and that may turn the fans off. The reman AC comps are **** for this car. And Im pretty sure they come shipped with the wrong oil. After so many AC failures i'd honeslty consider pulling all the ac lines and making sure they're not blocked by compressor parts and desiccant.Shop would charge you more than the car is worth for that.

Oh you know matt, if I didn't do dumb **** once in a while It wouldn't really be me lol.

I'm not sure, it wasn't acting as full-on retarded as it was that day. That day I some how ran out of oil and the oil light didn't come on, so I have no idea what that's about. The light illuminates on the dash at start up so it must be wherever that sensor is. Pretty important for a 94 BG that consumes oil. My oil consumption isn't too bad though, and the only leaks I have a VCG. I do have some white smoke on start up randomly but I don't think it's horrible HG failure.

On the compressor and most autoz-tier parts in general the BG is horrible. Like really bad. If I lose another compressor I'm just going to get one from the dealer and pay the premium. It wasn't shutting off the fans today so I couldn't see if the compressor was still doing it's job while the fans were off. But on highway speeds, it seems to have this subtle jerking motion every 30-60 sec. Almost feels like Automatic tranny shifting gears, very odd. I originally thought this was the fans acting up again, but when I put my hand next to the vents (there should be enough time for cool air to stop blowing out and a noticeable change to occur), air was still very cold.

If it starts acting up again, I'll bring my temp gun and see if there are drastic drops in temperature to account for full compressor shut off. Obviously when the condenser fan doesn't operate, the air will be a little warmer, but when it was acting up I didn't notice cooler temperatures dropping in the cabin with the A/C engaged.

I felt the alternator belt tension after a long trip, and right after the drive the belt felt tight still. Can't tell if it is going back and forth in tautness or if my poor perception is creating false observations. Seems like it's still holding up though. If it loosens again, I'm just going to do the MPV alt. unless yours is some catastrophe currently. I just wonder why the tightening threshold is so narrow for the stock alternator. I've never really had that issue in any other jdm car.

                So just an update here.

I lost an Alt. belt for like the 5th time going down I-5 from Tampa the other day, and I was pretty pissed.

After taking it into some mom & pop shop, they found one of the water pump pulley bolts was broken off. They extracted it and replaced it with whatever was laying around the shop before they put the new autoZ belt on.

Never had an issue since. It's amazing the previous mechanic didn't try and diagnose why I was losing belts. whatever.

I ran onto a curb coming back from Tampa one night, and curb rashed the passenger wheels. I didn't know for certain if I screwed anything up, but I did hear "clunks" on the right side occasionally.

I got under her last night to change the oil and OEM filter, and found the axle boot torn and grease all over the inner wheel and brake caliper/ rotor area, which I'm sure is unsafe.

The axles are both old as hell, and the driver's side is an ABS one for whatever reason (has the ring). So I'm going to probably replace both.

I made an appt. to see if anything else was damaged, but I'll probably just replace them myself if I have the time. This year has been crazy busy for whatever reason.

I'm assuming this would be a good idea to replace the connecting sh** that goes from the axles to the intermediate shaft but I doubt AutoZ has those parts on hand.

The issue with my A/C seems to have not replicated itself. I had a high idle and adjusted the little TPS screw last night. Idle is much better but drops kinda low with the compressor kicked on and I get the rumbles when taking off in 1st or god forbid 2nd. Need to do some refreshing and tuning in that department.

I'm pretty sure my water thermoswitch is going out as I always go 3/4 of the way up the temp gauge before the system kicks the fan on. I don't think it's the fan electrical as that is usually an intermittent signal (you will see the fan come on for a few seconds, off for 10, back on for 23, etc.).

Cooling system is not happy. Usually smell coolant outside the car, sometimes in the cabin. Oil change still looked good. Didn't seem to have a mix. But I do occasionally get white smoke on start-ups. Saw a drip or two on the drain plug; might just be the aftermarket rad with the plastic plug. The inside of the rad looks dirty and the cap should not look like that.

Also got a quote to fix the horrible frame damage on the passenger side. I didn't see it before purchase as it was basically hidden by the washer pump and the rad support doesn't look bent, but it's there. I got 275 out the door for frame straightening and replacing the fender. I'm ok with that.

Also waiting on that mazda god Polish Piotr to send me a dash so I can finally swap out the cluster (missing plastic as I took it off since it was horribly cracked). My VSS threads on the Tranny are stripped either on the housing or the cable so it just barely sits in there and rattles around. I'll be changing the MTX oil so I'll probably just do half the cable as I don't want to fu** with the cluster area. The little clock trim is already broken and fragile as all hell so no thanks.

The Irish cluster I got has 172k on the Odometer, and mine has ~164k, so I have been playing this game where I'm patiently waiting to see how close I can get them with respect to how impatient I become.

I also bought a Subaru L bumper off this Sub nerd for dirt cheap. I might just give it to the body shop and have them put it on as long as they don't cry it's too custom. If they do, I'll just sand it, fill in the cracks, prime it, and have someone shoot it.

I also found an actual powdercoat shop in my area so that's been dope. I haven't been doing anything for the BG but I've done it on the Toyota and they are great.

Still need to find some MX-3 rails for the passenger side so I can get the GTX seat in there and get rid of that ugly brown seat.

Also, my Compressor is clicking again. The sad part is I can't tell if the lines are fouled like kitty said, or the compressors from AutoZ or whatever china store are just 90% fail rates. It's really disgusting how bad their quality control has been. I might just go to the dealership for shi** and giggles to see what they would charge.

That's about it. Nardi FD wheel is on, but still need to hook up cruise controls and horn. Can't get the damn thing straight to save my life either. Got that OEM steering wheel puller which is trash and almost ruined the threads on the wheel. Ended up going to Lowe's and got m10x1.25x50?? bolts to replace the standard size that I was originally using.

The shifter still rattles. it's annoying. That guy who is selling GT-r parts has some kind of description on his bronze bushing and bolts that he modified them to remedy this. I couldn't tell what he did in the picture though.

I also need another daily. Trying to figure out if I want to get another NA or buy this Turbo vin FC (GTU years) for like $4500.00 in New York. Guy is desperate and I could probably get lower.

                Choices choices.

Can you tell I got a new phone? God I love having an actually decent camera now.

Having one ABS axle and one non-ABS axle is nothing to worry about. Most/all replacement axles have the ABS rings on them, so the drivers side axle is probably newer. If the boots aren’t torn and it isn’t making noise I would leave it be.

SO I blew my engine. I got pissed off with Mazda and have an 86 and A lexus IS250. The IS250 is a wonderful, cheap DD that is actually really fun to drive with a paddle shifter.

But, there is someone who is such a initial D fanboy, they will pay me more than what I've spent on the GTS.

I'm thinking hard about buying Rivet's 4WD and restoring it since I have a broken wonderful parts LX BG. I also have a good cheap bodyshop hookup.

The GF wants a 97' Miata so I would like to have Mazda all around. Check back for more/ thoughts?

Thanks to Kitty, she is running again. Heater core was bad. I am having a ton of coolant issues so either the previous owner was a dick about maintenance, the car sitting did not take well to hoses, the rats chewed through ****, or I have a faulty cooling control item, causing other things to go wrong. I have a feeling the Thermostat is not doing it's job.

One of the flimsy thermo-switches was either broken after messing around in the bay, or could have happened previously.
Replaced with GREAT CHINA O'reily's. I was surprised it included a little washer. Easy install, used blue thread locker. This is the ECU/fan switch control I believe. The thermoswitch with a spade connection is the gauge sender I think.

Also had a coolant hose that was ripped. From the look of the hose, pressure built up and caused a rupture from the inside out, seeing as how it balloons towards the ends. This I believe was a shop replaced hose.

I got two bulk heater hose sizes when I looped the lines to bypass my supposed bad heater core. 5/8" and 3/4". 3/4" worked fine, but the 5/8" was a more (to me) comfortable snug.

Super flushing the radiator. Getting tags tommorow so I can drive her around. Next issue will be a completely destroyed CV-axle on the passenger side, fixing front end damage/putting on OEM fenders and lights, and possibly fitting the Subaru bumper. Burning oil, VCG will need to be replaced but there is oil in breather hose to air intake snorkel tube. PCV should be replaced. Likely have a leaking Distributor. Alternator sounds like death.
