    GT-R JDM BG8Z Restoration Project

Here is another one for the collection :0) ...

I have always wanted one and I finally got my hands on one. Imported directly from Japan. Its in need of some love, but it is low milage car with only 69,000Kms on the clock.

My plan is to restore it to OEM or better condition with some minor mods to the Suspsension Exhaust and tweak the boost.

Here it is as it landed off the boat to North America.

The Paint was super sun faded/chalky and it seems the drivers side was parked exposed to the sun more than the passenger side.

The Drivers Door seals, Black paint around the windows, the Wheel arches all sun faded.

Including the rear hatch spolier. It was sun faded right through the paint to the white base plastic material.

Its going to be a long process but is a clean car , just needs the right attention to the cosmetic areas to bring it back to life.

So, I have began the process and started with the front bumper and lights.

And while it was off decided to clean up the front clip and intercooler / piping, and restored the under engine skid plates.

They were powder coated a close silver to the OEM galvanized colour they were originally.

I didn't like the silver finish of the intercooler pipe which comes off the intercooler leading up to the intake,
so it was painted a gloss black, all the clamps replaced with S.steel t-bolt clamps and the coupler upgraded to a new silicone 3 ply one.

Now that the front end is complete and 90 % reassembled ( just have the center grill being painted )

I am moving my attention to the rear hatch and rear garnish, top spolier and tail lights.

I should mention I did do a full clean up, polish and wax of the original paint and it came back to life. It shines again !!

Its not bad for 25 year old original paint , but it does show some chips and other cosmetic blemishes from the harsh Japanese
weather and pollutants. But the paint will remain original for as long as possible.

Thanks Dixie94Pro ... its going to be a clean ride once its done. Just like all of the other cars I have in the collection.

But this one will be babied more than the others, as I want to keep it in the restored condition to retain its value for as long I own it and am the care taker of the car.

At least now its respectable enough to hang out with its siblings in the collection.

Landed in Canada close to $5500 , but have spent abit on it now it's here .

Plus a lot of hours just cleaning it up , exterior and interior.

Well that will be a tall task nowadays. I still watch the auctions and they never come up for auction
anymore and if they do the prices they are wanting a lot higher.

There was a super clean one on yahoo japan auction site and it was over $10,000

Ya the dash has seen better days. It's lifted and cracked in the middle .
I have another dash I will be changing it over to.

But while it's still altogether I am going to try and re foam and vinyl cover it while it's still in the car.

                      See how it turns out.

Do you mind me asking, what is that black glossy paint your putting on the front panel?,...is it por15 or similar ?
And will you paint over that the original colour or leave it black under the bumper,..?

Yup Canadian Peso! All in , driving here in Canada.

But now you can't find them going that cheap in Japan. Since they are in that 25year window to import to the USA
The prices have almost doubled from what I have seen.

I am going to strip the whole dash of the old vinyl and foam while its in the car still and re do the foam/vinyl.

Will see how it works out... If it is a fail ! I will put in my spare good dash.

I just don't want to go through all the work of taking out the dash , a/c, hvac, wiring ...etc.

As for the black paint, yes it's a simiar product to por15. The car was sprayed black underneath either when it was new or shortly after, so I felt taking the black in the front up to where you see it in the pics would work ok.
