    passenger side cv axle shaft

    Hi there,

I have a 97 mazda protege LX 1.5L 4AT. I need to replace the cv axle since the boot is totaly torn and you can hear the noise when it turns left.

my question is there are two version of shaft. one is with intermediate shaft and the other is without. Autozone and rockauto provide both options. just wonder if long w/o intermediate shaft will fit mine? I know mine has intermediate shaft sicne the CAT is very big. I already order the lomg w/o version and mechanic does not wnat to change it and prefer the one w/ intermediate one.

    any idea?

As long as the shaft you ordered is for an AT car and there's nothing in the way of having a CV joint right up against the passenger side of the transmission.... it should work fine.

The mechanic probably prefers the intermediate shaft version as it's easier to replace... you can swap it out without losing transmission fluid.

There are other advantages too but on a 1.5L AT you have no hope of experiencing them anyway.
