    The Red Turd (88 GTX)

Hi Dudes, I just picked up what I'm hoping isnt, but likely will be a basket case of a 323GTX. A little history, this will be my 7th Turbo AWD car, and I am a sucker for late 80s early 90s jdm junk. I picked this beauty off craigslist this past week for a price I couldnt pass up and will be updating this log frequently.
First thing is first... here is what I know or was told from the PO.
Boost was cranked up to 20psi, turbo go boom. the turbo is now gone, and the PO began tearing down and rebuilding the engine, but its half way done and in pieces at the moment. Ill get better pictures tomorrow. but I know for sure, either it needs a slight rebuild or a donor 1.6. Good news for me is I know a thing or 2 about BP series engines since I own a turbo miata as well with a custom turbo setup on it. So fans of the Mighty car mods series will know why ive loving and affectionately named it the red turd, here it is. These pictures were taken before it even got home.

    Sweet carbon fiber hood!

As of right now I'm just planning a quickie engine rebuild/assembly, and locating a stock or stockished sized turbo. The PO was on the way to a car show and decided to try and have fun by turning the boost up to 11 (20psi) on the stock turbo. Didn't work out so well. To my knowledge the car has been chipped, but I may have to do some more investigating.

Dang I didn't think the stock turbo would hold 20psi.

I know!!!! they were carbon fibered a different way however, it looks like the hood was done with a paint can, and the wheels with plastidip.

This morning I was able to get the car back to my house and actually assess the damage and what I'm gonna need. I also got to see exactly what I'm getting myself into and what I will need for parts. So far, it looks like a new turbo charger is literally the only major component I dont have. The car came with a full set of gaskets which will be great for putting this back together. It looks like its also going to need new rear struts and steering rack boots. other than that it is in surprisingly good shape. Pictures in no particular order. Ill try and explain each one.

No, I really wish I did. I have a complete engine minus the turbo and exhaust elbow. Id totally do a rebuild on one if i still had it. I also have a factory garrett T25 off an s13 sr20. Ive though of getting a flange adapter and making that work as its roughly the same size, but Id rather just do the easy bolt on and be

I have Ben debating trying a miata turbo manifold and pulling the t25 off my sr once I get a bigger turbo for my 510

Small update. Found a local guy who has a stock vj14 off of a capri XR2 that has a ton of shaft play. the good news is Ill be picking it up for nothing, thanks to the the fact that I have some T25 turbo stuff lying around he needs. To my knowledge IHI does not make a rebuild kit for their turbos, only aftermarket. Can anyone point me in the direction to the "best" rebuild kit you can get for these turbos?
