    Gtr exhaust manifold upgrade

Hi all, can anyone help out sourcing/fabricating an aftermarket exhaust manifold for a gtr running standard turbo? Something like the discontinued one at http://www.turbinetech.ca or a 'ram horn' would be great.

    Thanks

The stock gtr manifold is gonna be real tough to beat, if you are keeping the vj23 and why wouldn't you. It is equal length short runners. Ramhorns lose some by not getting as much heat into the turbo. The only reason I'm not using gtr ex in my current street car is that I am an idiot and could not find a vj23 to replace the busted one, and bought the smallest borgwarner turbo... which Will Not talk to a gtr manifold withlut hitting the block. A 2" spacer seemed awkward. So I had to kludge up a homebrew. If I had the slightest amount of sense I would sell the BW and find a vj23...

Right mate cool, thanks. I had read the standard manifold was short equal runners, I just assumed with it being so old a modern equivalent would be better. Managed to get a corksport turbo downpipe and few other goodies before they stopped stocking familia/323 bits though. Cheers for info, and you've certainly been busy I wanna keep standard turbo n engine, and hopefully standard 'box. Time will tell

The corksport dp on the other hand, now that is a Score. Did you compare that with the stock downpipe? OMG. Huge difference. Typical GTR. Some of the hardware is ready to rumble in gpA, then a lawyer pops up in the boardroom and says Oh crikey we better slow this bitch down" so soda straw downpipe and small intake side plumbing.
I think your downpipe is the best hotside investment. Make sure the rest of the exhaust is open, make sure your intercooler tskes up lots of space, use huge diameter pipe from the turbo to the filter and use a huge filter ( my car was hourglassing the typical size k and n filter. Replaced it with one that normally goes on 5.9 cummins), standalone ecu for big injectors and lose the AFM, and all of a sudden ypu have musclecar output and broken gearboxes...i was seeing 320 hp/315 tq at the wheels on stock block and head, 550 injectors at 24 psi. Yes, injectors were at 95%, and yes we were right up to the top of the map sensor. A grenade. With the pin pulled out. But it didn't blow up.

Yeah I'm well happy with it, was a huge difference. I didn't know what a divorced wastegate was until it came in post 😀 real shame corksport don't do gtr now they were great source of goodies. Think it's 2.5" straight thru from there and 3" tail. I've got a standard evo 6 cooler with custom piping may well upgrade to big custom ic in future. I opted for a secret weapon r intake I think it was, and removed right fog to accommodate. Gonna reroute though looks much better with both front fogs. Had ecu done few months ago, walbro fuel pump, 10mm magnecor leads, maf removal, Bosch wideband lambda, and oil catch can. Still standard injectors, but they're running near max duty. 209@wheels and 190 ib/ft torque so not too bad. Should I consider coilpack? And that's nice numbers you're gettin bro, that's bound to surprise lots o folk when u fly past 😀

More spark is a very good idea. We kept blowing spark out till a HKS upgrade that Derrick found sitting on a shelf gathering dust. The rallycar uses a Jacobs C4 whiuch throws even more spark. Like an inch to the valve cover and don't get it wrong and let it zap you! If ya wanna go coil on plug, I'm sure it's been done and I bet it works just fine.

Just looked up the Jacobs c4 looks awesome. What's involved in conversion, is it fairly easy job? And any recommendations on what injectors to go for please, u seem to know you're stuff 😀

Just swap electrical conne tors. Ford coil plugin iirc. My street car had RC 550's, and so does the rallycar. My other mazda came to me with Deatchworks 650's. These I think are a newer design. 650's will have more headroom, and though I'm leery of putting big injectors cuz you lose fine control, lousy idle etc, but these are doing the job just fine. Either set of injectors will work for what you're looking for and are gonna be needed once you turn the boost up.

We made our own bracket and took the Mazda plug off the coil feed wires and put the Ford plug on, and that's it.
