    95 escort lx bp & 5 speed swap wont start

    I took everything out of 1991 egt, engine, manual trans, wiring harness, ecu, swapped it into a 1995 lx with auto transmission. First try I just plugged in the three plugs by the ecu and if turned over but the ecu chime sounded horrible, so I found a write up on an escort forum and followed the wiring directions but there a couple wires that don't match up, also I got another ecu out of the same year egt just to make sure I didn't fry it, and checked all fuses, still won't start. I also have a harness, ecu, and tb from my old 94 lx protege I would be down to use but the wires don't match the colors for the egt wiring so I don't know what to do. Anyone have a work log with good description of lx to gt swap wiring?

    you're going to have to get the factory wiring diagrams for both cars and figure out what's different and make the two parts of the harness match up.

    I used a 95 EGT harness to put a GTR motor into my 95 wagon and there was still a bunch of **** that we had to fix so it worked... IIRC there are two fuel pump wires, one for coolant temp signal, a jumper for the neutral safety switch, reverse lights, clutch interrupt switch, and probably something else I'm forgetting.

    I assume you followed my thread. I specifically stated in there that your wire colors may not match my stuff since it can vary by year and even mine was not exactly what it was supposed to be according to the manual I had but it was a process of elimination. If you just haphazardly plugged in everything under the ecu you likely fried it and your second one. You need to get a wiring service manual for your car and do not use a Haynes or chiltons manual and do it.

    That's what I did, I just followed a write-up on feoa forum for 91 egt engine swap in 95 with manual transmission, mine is auto transmission so I don't have the cpps switch wiring, is the clutch switch necessary for it to run or just start, because it turned over with just a jumper on the white transmission plug, just like a protege auto.

    I only did that the first time, then I followed your thread, all the colors matched besides the clutch ones, mine is 95 same year just auto instead of manual. I figured clutch switch wouldn't matter.

    Anyone on here have the info for 91 egt manual, and 95 elx automatic? I tried searching but all I can find is old threads that pictures don't work, and the same 300zx one.

    Does the the 1.8 engine harness plug into the 1.9 fuse box? It's a red/white wire, purple wire, and black wire.

    Somebody that has done this swap please help, can I just plug in the 1.9 harness from drivers fender into the 1.8 fuse box? The headlight part looks identical but what about everything else?

    I just had to swap out the entire 1.9 under hood fuse box for the 1.8 box, at first I was trying to run them both spliced together cuz I couldn't get a confirmation from anyone on what to do exactly.

    Does anyone know if there is a difference in the charging system warning light or wiring between 91 egt and 95 lx? The light is on and alternator is putting out 15.5-16.5 volts, I figured it was a bad regulator so I swapped out the alternator and same thing.

    You really need to go get some wiring diagrams. Yes they are different, and mine did the same thing but I just ignored the light.

    I have the closest diagrams I could find, if your battery light is on, your getting 15-16 volts and you just ignored it than your killing your battery. I know what the problem is, I'm not getting power to the thick wire on the alternator, I jumped it and it instantly went to14.5 volts, just trying to figure out where the difference is in the two.

    did you see the PM I sent you that had the links to the Factory Service Manuals? they'll at least show you the EGT side of things. I don't remember ever having a full manual for the Escort LX, maybe something from back in the ERDT days, but that's over a decade ago.
