I've owned this 1990 4wd Protege for long enough. I'm bringing it here first because I figure family gets first dibs. I'll be honest, it's not in perfect shape. There's rust in places that's hard to fix and there's bondo in places that's hard to explain. Otherwise, it drives great. I would estimate I've driven it 5 thousand miles since I've owned it.
(I'll get a pic up soon)
The Bad
Paint is sky blue and peeling.
The steering rack leaks so I looped the lines and made it manual.
The head liner was foobar so I pulled it out.
The rust holes above the windshield leak rain into the cabin. This is the worst of the rust, and the only holes I know of.
The RR tire is out of round a bit and needs to be replaced.
This car was in an accident at some point in it's life and there's bondo on the RF corner. It doesn't seem to affect the car operation at all and it can't be see unless the hood is open.
There's no radio antenna, and the rear window defogger is disconnected at the window. I have the glue but never tried to fix it. I covered the hole for the antenna myself. It looks acceptable
The floor mat might be after market. It doesn't fit well and needs to be redone.
There's no radio or speakers
The drivers side door panel doesn't match the rest.
There's no way to tell how many miles are on this car since I swapped out the dash cluster.
There is a short somewhere. It's probably under the hood, for sure something to do with the wipers and the heater motor since they only work intermittently. The short can run the battery down depending on whether is shorting or not. Like I say, it's intermittent.
AFAIK, all the suspension is original. I may have replaced the bushings for the sway bar end links. I can't remember.
I didn't re-install the entire dash. I just did enough to be able to drive it. I'm not even sure if I have I all of the pieces. I did source some extra that will go with it.
The wind shield is cracked.
The good
I had it aligned so the suspension has to be good enough to hold those settings. It drives straight as of this post
All the dash gauges and lights work.
It has manual seat belts which is probably why the head liner was jacked up.
The four wheels and tires that are on it will go with it. They're aggressive, 15", all seasons and still have good tread on them.
All four corners of the car have all new breaks, calipers, pads, rotors, and fluid. They're solid and work well.
The exhaust is 2.5" and will go with it. I'm no welding genius and never claimed to be. It does what it's supposed to do though. There's a silencer and a straight muffler. No cat.
Both front wheel bearings are new, and some other little stuff. Tie rod ends I think.
The Walbro fuel pump goes with it.
I will sell the JDM transmission with the car but the BP 26 engine stays with me. I'll make sure the rear motor mount goes with the car since they're unique to this model.
The clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel stay with me
The wide-band stays with me
The MX3 seats go with the car,
The boost gauge goes with the car
I have two viscous LSD units, one in a case and ready to go, complete with both shafts. The other is just the gear unit. Obviously I won't need them.
The modified.
For better or for worse, I welded the mounts for the Escort radiator. I also welded the support for the FMIC I put on it.
The wiring harness is the one that came with the car so has been modified for the BP26. (I think the 4 wire TPS is all I did, it's been a while)
The front bumper has been modified for the FMIC I put on it. The good news is I'm pretty sure it can be replaced by any USDM Protege of the same model.
To be negotiated
The IC is 2.5" and will go with the chassis if desired.
Free,
There's going to be some crap in the trunk too. Seat rails, part of a power window conversion, and anything else that was associated with this car. .
The work log for the car is in my sig. You can find the history of the car and it's owners there.
I want this to go to a good home, but go it will, and soon. The only thing that's holding me up is my engine puller, and that's not that hard to fix.
I'm going to ask $1500. If you've ever helped me, I'll knock a couple hundred off that.
