    My front 4WD axles

    The stub came with the GTX tranny.
    The dirty ones came on the car.
    Then there are the new ones that obviously don't fit.

    That short (old) axle looks like a standard passengerside axle if you have a jackshaft.
    and as the other guy was saying you can un-strap the inner boot on the second new axle and use the inner axle part from your old axle. I'd use the one thats still sealed. Just cut it open, clean it up really good, and remove the old boot obviously. Pack it full of new grease and get a boot strap and the correct pliers and you've got a new axle.

      Those aren't the right new axles for sure, they've got ABS rings on them. And the ends are wrong.

      Take 'em back and make them get you the right ones!

            I went to the parts house and bought enough grease, bands, and boots to reassemble them from the parts you see here. I haven't started that part of the project yet but think it should be fine. I don't have a proper parts cleaner so am thinking of using a crock pot with a solution of Simple Green and water, or even straight vinegar, or maybe NAPTHA and alcohal from Goldstar's engine bay thread.

            If I remember correctly, the reason the previous owner was changing the axles in the first place was because the outer boots where torn and leaking. There were no other symptoms if I remember correctly.

            If it turns out that I need additional parts, I have links and some real good advice. I priced rebuilt axles from NAPA and they're right around $60 a piece. They're all over the country though so it I'll have to order them early if I need them.

            All I really need to get the car in the garage is the outer stubs, and I have those.

              watch out, lots of aftermarket axles have different splines on the back of the CV compared to OEM parts. also if you are planning to reuse your existing CV's dont forget that leaking grease also means sand/dirt probably got into the joint and wore it out significantly.

              I found those pics and part numbers on Rockauto.com, you might want to give them a try.

                I found the axles on Auto Parts Nerds via the A1 CarDone lead you posted. They were pretty expensive so I went down to the local NAPA to see what they had. They can get them too and for nearly half the price. Yea, I've always associated price with quality so I can't help but think I'm asking for problems down the road with a cheaper alternative but I've bought axles from them before with no troubles.

                They'll be here by next Sat. The left one is in Cali and the right one is in Phily. They're getting me a deal on shipping too

                Side note-I'm pretty fed up with some of the parts guys down there. I don't like being sold up when I know what I want and if you don't stop being dicks, I'm never going to come back. I can find parts cheaper elsewhere. I shop there out of a sense of loyalty, but I have my limits.

                  I'll shop at the parts house when I need something quick. anymore, though, it's Rockauto.com (warehouse is like an hour away, so I get stuff next-day without paying extra for it a lot of times.) or, when I want a specific brand, i shop around a bit. Like the ASCO (Aisin Seiki Company) hydraulic cylinders for brake and clutch for my AE86.

                    We don't have Rockauto around here. What we do have is more parts houses than you can shake a stick at.

                    Costless-usually best price and is always busy, they went the extra mile for me a couple times so I do most of my shopping there

                    NAPA-oldest as far as I know with pretty good quality stuff, my Dad shopped there back when

                    CarQuest-the guy is always helpful, brought in a whole box of bolts so I could buy two. Very cool

                    Auto Zone-great tool loaning program

                    Baxter-don't shop there, it's a proximity thing

                    Schuck's-worthless, useless, just as well not exist

                    The local machine shop can get parts too, usually at a discount to what I can buy for. The guy is nice and usually passes on the savings to me. I make it a point to get him some meat market sausage for the holidays. Yummy stuff.
                    Shops usually get a better price break. My Uncles fire fighting/brush piling Co gets huge saving over what the average guy gets. Too bad I can't get in on some of that business love.

                      I got mine from NAPA. Everybody else told me they were unavailable. At the time all my online sources were out of stock too. I don't know if availability is better now or how your location will affect you.

                      I hope you find what you need for a reasonable price.

                            Your lucky, I have 1 parts store within 60 miles, it's NAPA, and worthless!
                            They charge a fortune for crappy parts.
