    MX3 axle information

    I am going to be installing an MSP LSD along with the new motor. The spline count on the LSD does not match the spline count on the stock protege LX/Escort GT axles. So I have to use MX3 GS axles and half shaft or kia ones.

    I know the MX3 has a wider track than the escort/protege/323.

    Are the MX3 GS axles longer than the protege ones? What about the half shaft - any differences aside from spline count?

    Any information would be great and thanks in advance.

    LSD = 28 splines...

    Halfshaft that I have from the EGT that I rebuilt and can't use now has 26 splines on it. Same with the new axles I have for ProLX, 26 splines.

      So we def need 28 spline axles/half shaft. I just don't know about the length of the MX3 ones.

      Jon, for your MX3, is the track wider just like a GS V6 model?

        I don't know...

        I did find some info... LSD in a Kia on a BP.

          your best bet is gonna be to use kia axles and midshaft. they are the right length, and the midshaft will bolt up to the block. this is not the case for the MX3 midshaft as it was bolted to a v6

            LX axles can replace GS axles w/o any problem when a BP w/ a G series tranny is bolted in.

            I thought 92 2 fast used a protege 5 half shaft or something to put his in.

            Good luck lex, take lots of pics, and post lots of notes.

              why does CS say that they use a shortened drivers side GS axle then?

                cocksport also said that the GTR needed *special* mounts to mount into a 2nd gen... which was proved wrong by Patrick when he put a gtr in his 2nd gen.

                I dunno why, but I bolted everything from under an LX hood into my GS w/o much effort.

                Jitb put a kl into his protege using straight unmodified GS parts. I dont think that he swapped hubs or frames or anything... just the opposite of what I did.

                  i remember MX3 control arms were needed when installing a KL in an escort wagon... which has the same front end as a protege.

                      from what I have read in the past they are the same as the 1st gen count. I can be 100% behind that though.

                          probably not, maybe from a kia dealer though... rofl. i'd check junkyards.

                            j/y's are your friends. They are pretty common here, but most have the kia bp missing when I find them.

                              If you guys kept an eye out it would be great .... The 1.8kia along with any 1.8BP car here is pretty rare.
