I guess I never got it. It's not like cd's you can easily copy and take along with you on the go to easily watch wherever you please. And unlike music, you can't really get enjoyment out of watching/listening to most of them more than 5 times. Buying DVD's is something I don't get. I rent like anyone else, but only own like 5 dvd movies :

the copy protection on dvds pisses me off, because it prohibits things that are perfectly legal under personal use. for example, I'm at college, I keep all of my CDs on my computer and leave the discs at home, perfectly legitimate/legal, I'd like to do the same with movies, but can I? ****ing no, bastages. /rant

#1 DVD copy protection isn't that bad if you read up on it as far as getting "around" it. #2 i usually don't buy say series, etc. Like say stargate, alias, etc. I rent and watch and thats it. Other things that i like ALOT like family guy, married with children, etc. that is just random insane humor i buy!

circumventing copy protection is technically illegal, and I really just want to be able to pop a DVD in and click Import, like I can with CDs in iTunes.

Technically so is circumventing copy protection on your CDs. Its the same bs. "Backup" purposes or not your not suppose to copy CDs nor DVDs..... This is what i think of the RIAA/MPAA... :microwave

Okay, let's not turn this thread into a "how to pirate a movie" discussion.

Not being able to copy a DVD has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. Thank you.

There is no copy protection on most CDs, if there were, I wouldn't be able to rip them. Don't give me this "backup" in quotation stuff either, everything I use my CDs for is 100% legal, including making a single copy for a family member.

Anything past a single "BACKUP" copy for YOURSELF is piracy. Even if the persons room is right next to yours... Ask the RIAA!

try again, according to the law (it has a little bit more clout than the RIAA), an individual is allowed to make copies of any media that they have purchased for any purpose as long as it isn't mass distribution. this includes providing single copies to friends/family, if you gave it to everyone that you knew, then that would be grounds for anti-piracy litigation, but if you burn your own personal copy of a CD to give to your mother, it isn't piracy. stop making stuff up.
