    escort glass sunroof ??????????

i went on the hunt to replace the sunroof in my car(because of rust spot and the fact it dont open, only up)in the same j/y that i got the seats and skirts. i came across an escort so i riped the whole glass assemble tracks and everything.($20) the question i have is does the whole track system fit right in the same locations as the pro? does it have the same wire hook ups? you know the usual questions.

if u want to replace the assembly, you can... the only problem with hookups is the dome light doesnt work very well... u gotta rig that somehow...

i didnt notice that until i had my whole headliner in place... so now the dome light is just hanging on the headliner and not pinned to the assembly in anyway...

my protege came stock with a glass roof, as did most canadian models from what i've seen, and i'm pretty sure that the pieces and tracks are just the same.

just got done swaping it. great mod but i have couple of problems now. 1 i'm going to have to see if the dome light is still there in the car i got it from cause it dont have the extra bracet for it so i'm going to see if the escort light will work properly. might have to cut the headboard a little. 2 i broke both side a pillers trying to take them out so ill get them from 1 of the 2 proteges that are in the j/y. other then that perfect fit. im so happy to have a working sunroof finally after 2 years of it just going up and not back. anyone considering this swap i recomend it. next project fixing the suspension.

i tried doing that... but I think the headliner needs to be from the escort as well, coz the dome light location seems to be a little different from the pro.

the glass panel directly replaces the protege's stock metal one. But if you want that lil sliding shroud you'll have ot figure out how to swap in the whole sunroof frame assembly

marc did a whole install how to, i believe (or maybe it was a how to on reupholstering the headliner... either way, it shows what to take off and where).
it's what i used when putting mine in...
only thing is, make sure it's tight on there... i didn't tighten in in the right bolt pattern (corner->opposite corner->middle- etc..) so it's loose now and thanks to a broken motor mount, i have a rough idle, so it shakes and rattles and gets REALLY annoying...
i plan to fix that when i get a new lx.

my was a direct swap but not the dome light. it slides back and pops up. i bought the whole assemble motor and everything. i just had to unbolt 8 bolts, unplug 3 connections, and take of the 4 hoses and put the escort assemble in the place of it.
