You don't really need the shroud unless the window isn't tinted. I had the shroud in, but never closed it anyways, so I ripped it out. I don't even notice it's gone.

If you swap over the entire assembly I suggest the use of a buddy. That damn thing weighs a good 30lbs and can be difficult to hold in place while trying to bolt it up. I haven't found a solution to the dome light yet, actually I've been too lazy to try, but it's slightly held up by a screw.

i glued mine to my headliner...

not the greatest method, but it works fine...

strangely, it doesn't turn on if you flip the switch to 'on'
it only turns on if the switch is in the middle and the door is open...

yeah, i have the same problem, its not getting the ground from the assembly frame.... i think its coz its painted... So the next time, I remove my headliner, im gonna run a seperate ground to it and hopefully that should do the trick.

Yeah the screw grounds the light to he chassis. No screw = no ground = no light.

                  glass

so emme see if i understand all of this correctly, i can drop another potege glass section right in where the steel one is with no mods? ut on the stock metal one there is a upolstered cover that moves with the steel. do i just remove that?
This is our quest; as the tail lights fade into the distance let it not be the jeers of others that say we can not do what others have, but to let the whistle of the bov the whine of our turbo and the roar of our exhaust announce to those who may say it can not be done that we will not go quietly into the night we will not bow to mainstream but rather blow by them doing mach speed laughing our asses off and giving them the one sure sign( ) so that they will understand their place in life when it comes to doubting a driven individual who owns a Mazda BG with a boosted BP

Unless you're in Canada, you're not gonna find a Protege 1st. gen. with a glass sunroof. You need to find a Ford Escort or Mercury Tracer.
Installing the dome light is easy. All you have to do is drill out the 3 tack welds on the light mount, chisel the mount off, then bolt it in the same place on the track assembly from the Escort/Tracer.

damn your reviving an old ass post. but ill help.

1st drop the headliner down. then you will expose the sunroof track assembly. on the assembly you will see 8 10mm bolts(maybe 12mm) holding the assembly in. and hoses at all 4 corners and i think 2 wire harness connections. unplug, detach and unbolt all that **** from the escort one and do the same from your protege. installation is reverse.
                      just follow these steps
                      1)unplug
                      2)detach hoses
                      3)unbolt

im not responsable for you f**kin up your own ****.

Bill and Turpro just told you how to replace the whole assembly with a glass one. If you dont want to do that, and just want to swap the glass panel for the metal panel, all you have to do is rip the headliner part down that covers your metal panel(its held up by two tabs), and you'll see 6 10mm nuts. Take those off and put the glass panel in and tighten the nuts and you're done. You can cut those tabs off so you don't see them anymore.
