Yeah... I'll do that...I'm just fed up of getting parts snagged on me... I found a complete GTR engine with turbo and engine management system... but the guy wants 4 grand for it... I'm still working him...
Anyways... update on the cowl... I really hope I can get the plastic attachment pieces at either the dealer or an auto parts store... the factory manuals don't even have them as part numbers... So this is what it looks like when I sandblast my car... I cover it with a big geotextile and get under it... then I sandblast it with this small speedblaster...

Quoted by viper_707 are i seriously blasting all the area. u know theres faster ways to strip it down and u can just sandblast the areas
Actually I didn't need to go down to the metal as the existing paint is probably the best sealer... but in order not to miss any hidden oxidation and considering it's such a small area I figured I would sandblast the whole thing...
Finished with the sandblasting, cut the badly rusted areas out cut the pieces for the retrofit... I'll mig them tmw... I did find another bad spot though...cleaned it up and made a replacement piece... here are the pics I took

OK I know this crap is boring, but this is how it is.... you start working on something and as you work on it you discover other things, or root causes of what the problem was and/or the effect of the cause... Case in point... I want to do the roof, find spots near the windshield, remove windshield. Remove windshield, find spots on cowl. Cowl turns into heater air intake grill, which turns into blower motor box...
So as you will see in pics, I worked on the grill, then the air intake box... needed to be done...as you can see I even changed the foam backing on the flap. the grill is ready for paint (black) but it will wait until the rest of the stuff is done. But it's all new metal and sealed:

I always find it impressive when someone repairs what a Florida guy would call "a rusted out useless car", lol. Good work on it. I wish I could of done the same thing with my Cressida but not knowing how to weld kills me.

Actually the rust isn't that bad on it as it was undercoated for several years... it's just that you find that cancer in the really well hidden spots. And if you don't clean it asap it propagates onto key parts and then becomes almost unrepairable. I am anxious to get to the door bottoms and rocker panels. That's next. Then it will be the rear end... I'll remove everything back there and clean that up... I'm sure there's some rust hidden back there somewhere. I had already removed the gas tank and cleaned everything up underneath. The focus will be near around the muffler and up under the bumper...that should be pretty easy...Finally, before the engine rebuild and boost, I'll remove everything in the engine bay and remove all that friggin rust protectant to re expose the nice protected paint under there... the engine bay is pretty clean other than corrosion on brackets etc., and the bay being soaked in undercoating...
Yeah... 2 sets of tires AND rims...putting used tires back on rims generally causes air leaks between the rim and tire, even after cleaning the rim and using bead sealer... In Quebec it`s the law... You must have winter tires on your car between Dec 15 and apr15. They need to have the Snowflake or mountain logo or else they are not acceptable... but you know what ? it's not a bad idea... first, nothing beats a good sno grip, and I've seen some people diving on pretty poor tires and you know it's just a question of time before they either whack someone or someone's property...I'ts what I dread... doing all this work on my car and getting T boned at an intersection by some idiot or something
