    Weekend warrior

yeah I used a bit of leverage but it was from me pounding on it with a sledge that did it...

Glued the leather to the liner today...boy what did I get myself into...lol...it's not as easy as it looks... and I didn't centre it well enough... it's off a bit...frig it... it'll stay like that...Now I need to cut things out...sunroof opening, dome light, roof switch/ map light. Oh**** handles...

sandblasted one side of the crossmember will do the other side tomorrow. I need to do that so I can put m mounts back in...ordered my shift control rod... rec'd my rear corksport type II strut bar and other bronzeoil bushings...picked up my basecoat and reducer, so now all I have left to buy is the clearcoat... In the meantime, drill out busted screws and re tap, and oh clean up the surface rust on the bottom of the fenders and sand the sideskirts prep them for paint...

I've got so much stuff to do...the ZX2 SBF with SS LCAs is on standby since I don't want to spend time or money on stuff that I don't immediately need to make the car move... it already has one so I can afford to work on other things... I want the car moving!! the nice weather is just around the corner!

      Headliner's almost done...

This is as far as I can take the headliner for now... I will need to paint the roof and install the sunroof before I can go any farther...

        shift linkage & crossmember

Today I finished off the cross member and got to work on the entire shift linkage. Picked up my brand new shifter control rod from the dealer along with the bolt bushing and sleeve.

Not going to be able to finish it today since I need to paint the shift rod and bracket. grinded the 3rd link bushing off... I have all the bronzeoil bushings as well so it will be like brand new!!

            Thx mp!!

I have to tell you MP, I appreciate the comments you make in my worklog. I am proud about what I do with my wheels that I look forward to putting it in, pics and all... because sometimes I feel like it goes unnoticed.

Yeah I know that this exterior/ interior non engine related stuff is somewhat boring, but I'm of the opinion that there isn't much sense in putting a bunch of power into a piece of junk that is so rotten it's dangerous. I have some great plans for the engine & powertrain, but it won't be done until the car is ready for it...and to be honest, it's a lot of work to clean up a car properly and with detail.

            Anyways... just venting...

                  Go Phil!

I do read your worklog! I _think_ it has motivated to make one of my own. I keep alot of info on paper it's silly not to post it.

Are you going to take this GT out this summer?

                  Comment

Oh absolutely... Once I get the clear coat, I will paint the roof and pillars, reassemble and away we go... I had to amortize the cost of the paints and primers over a long period of time because of all the parts I bought through the winter...

You know , you get all the parts you want and need but once you remove the old stuff you see other things that are needed to repair or replace before putting the original part you bought back on...

An example is my fenders... I had to remove them to get to other things... but you know those little screws at the bottoms of the fenders? although I removed them 2 years ago, when I took them out this time, they broke in the holes... so I had to drill and tap... and the bit of corrosion at the bottom of the fender still has to be addressed!! So the extra work gets compounded...

Tomorrow I will finish the shifter rods and get my mounts installed. then all I can do is dick around with some small things until I buy the clear coat on thursday payday next week...

It gives me time to do the fender bottoms, prep the side skirts and interior moldings for paint, get the sun visors and rear trim leathered up... boy it goes on and on...

And thanks for the kind comments guys!!!...lol...

                      mounts and shift linkages done

Started at 11 and finished at 8... took my time and everything got cleaned before it went in!

Wow... the shifter is about as stiff as when I was 13 and in hi school and...... you know the rest...

                      it's actually very stiff...the shifter I mean...

No pics since it's too dark down under there...

tomorrow I'll clean up my mess, and prep the side skirts, clean up the fender btms, and seam seal around the btm of the windshield and down the front quarters where I removed it prior to sandblasting.

Yup it went pretty smooth... Had to try to remember how and where the rubber bushings went on the cross member... I bought a new computer a while back and sent the old one down to the basement (my garage) and now I have the FSM opened when I am re installing parts. Mainly to ensure proper torque speacs and whether I need to oil, grease or loctite...

Frigg I look at that engine bay and it just disgusts me!!! I can't wait to get in there... but, as good as an engine bay can look, it doesn't mean jack sh*t if there's nothing in there to impress...I have 3 BP DOHC engines on hand so it's only a question of time, patience and, yes, money...

So I got the seam sealing done around the windshield btm and the holes near the door hinges, took a hard look at the fenders (as you will see there's work to be done there), and finally did some brainstorming on the best way to attach those side skirts to the rocker panels. I could go with 2 sided tape and be done with it, but I think the good move is to install that rail...

While rebuilding I noticed that rust had developed inside the seam of the frame where the fender attaches. 3 pieces of metal meet there and are welded together sandwiched. I think what happened is water got in there , and when winter came the water froze, expanded and started spreading the sandwiched spots apart.. So I sandblasted as far inside there as I could, sprayed it with rust converter, hammered it back together, painted it with a few coats of black then sealed it yesterday...hope it stops it...anyways, this car won't be seeing winter or frozen temps again...

Added pics of the upper mounts I replaced...

I don't know if it's a waste of time but my plan is to turn the car into a collector. Since it's a Canadian 93 GT, it's rare. So I plan to keep it...and hopefully it will be worth something someday...

Did a lot of work on it today, and it's again all stuff that is such a PITA, it's time consuming but needs to get done because you can't put the rest of the **** on until this gets done.

Ever break rusted bolts? well that's what I had to contend with today. Here are sample pics of center punching. pre drilling, drilling and tapping.

So today, I installed all the splash guards including re tapping new holes for them, sandblasted, fiberglassed, sanded and painted my fender bottoms with rock guard, and finally, re drilled and tapped the holes on my rocker panels so I can attach the bottoms of the front fenders.
