Not only does the BP05 head not flow well enough for that kind of rpm to make sense (look at BP turbo dyno graphs, they ALL drop off by 7k), neither the HLAs nor the OP gears will survive at that engine speed.
It's not a Honda or a rotary, you don't need a million rpm to make power. A set of billet OP gears and a BP4W head should be enough with your other mods so you can go to ~7500 if you really want.
Hmm let me see.....Custon machined head machined to flow more air, SS oversized valves, 3 angle valve job, Extrude Honed GTR intake, custom billet oil pump AND gears.
As far as the HLA, you mean Hydraulic lash adjusters right? Eibach EVS valve springs are rated to 15k.
Those oil pumps gears that TravisR is selling is only the gear, you will need the oil pump housing modified to run them. If those gears dont require it then they are a waste of time.Block is almost done, cylinders are overboard for Weisco pistons, pro gram billet main caps have been line bored, and my chinese EDT rods have been machined to right specs. Everything has been balanced.

it doesnt matter what springs you have, the HLA's still collapse at high rpm. the only solution is to convert to solid lifters.
why do you think travisR's gears are a waste of time? I haven’t had an oil pump completely apart yet but please explain, since I ordered a set already
The BP head’s ports are still pretty weaksauce, and even with head work… they don’t flow that great. Your only hope is to start with a 99-00 miata head which still isn’t THAT much better (better intake port angles) and requires mods to the intake mani flange to work (among other things). It does have solid lifters from the factory, though.Last edited by therieldeal; 10-14-2008, 12:44 PM.Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI

i think its possible but the high RPMs arent needed to do it. you'd also need some 225 50 15 drag radials or something to run on the street, just to keep you from spinning the tires at 100mph....Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI

Before this turns into a flame fest why don't you give the explaination your buddy gave. Besides you saying he said you have to modify the housing or they're worthless I haven't heard why. Not trying to jump on your case or defend anyone just wanting to know the reasoning why "drop in" billet gears are worthless.1993 Protege LX-Midnight's shadow SOLD

I am not going for an all out drag car here. My ultimate goal is to do 170mph while I am stationed again in Germany.
Based on the gear ratios I could get
1st 3.307
2nd 1.833
3rd 1.31
4th 0.918
5th 0.701
Final 4.338
At a shift point of 7200rpm I could get to 171mph. Because of that I would like to push the redline up a little to at least 8000. Its not like I would want 400hp wherever I was going that is why I dont want the turbo to spool until or after 3k rpms. I could cruise around the city with no boost and I would be happy with that.
I may never get that high, its just a goal. Oh yea. please correct me on th gear ratios. I fould those a long time ago and i dont remember if they are right or not.Last edited by svtfast; 10-15-2008, 08:04 AM.Block is almost done, cylinders are overboard for Weisco pistons, pro gram billet main caps have been line bored, and my chinese EDT rods have been machined to right specs. PM sent. Atomic for now please dont post in my thread until I can post more info about the gears. I am just waiting on approval from the guy that said it.Block is almost done, cylinders are overboard for Weisco pistons, pro gram billet main caps have been line bored, and my chinese EDT rods have been machined to right specs. Those are not the best gear ratios for top speed
For the fastest top speed you will want to do what I did. Get a kia g series bell housing and use the complete guts and rear housings from a 97+ escort LX (2.0 spi) tranny.
3.85 fd
1-3.31
2-1.833
3-1.23
4-0.914
5-0.717
Should give you somewhere around 180mph in 5th on a 23” tire. 4th will go about 135. this is at ~7200rpm off the top of my head… its been months since I calculated it.
A turbo that makes 400hp will never spool at 3k so don’t even worry about that LOL. I don’t have my full 18psi till about 3700.Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI

Remember, 400hp is my goal. I might only get to 300, we will see.
