picture of the shims attached to the block

You put your rtv one the bare block then the shims or mbsp then put your oil pan back on with a layer of rtv on your oil pan also like this.

And don't forget your oil pan gaskets on the ends

So 5 months late and my life is all new AGAIN.

I got got rid of the old escort in early June, moved (aka PCSed) from Ft Polk to Vilseck Germany in early july then right after I got to Germany I got married in Denmark then 2 months later I deployed to Bulgaria for 2 months.

In early August I got my first house but I didnt get my household goods (which included the motor, parts, and tools) until late August.

The block looks great, no rust. The head is still, well, dirty. I havent done a thing to it yet and I dont plan too until I get back. I dont know where the crank is either but I still have to go through some boxes. I should be able to do that tomarrow.

My small garage has no light or heat so I have to get that set up before I start work again. I am looking for a new 2nd gen escort on cragislist now. I have found a few but I dont know where I can store it. I have to talk to my dad and his friend to see if I can store it.

I am still alive and so is my build but life keeps on getting in the way. I am deploying to Afghanastan next spring or summer so there goes another year of no work.

        Crap.
Block is almost done, cylinders are overboard for Weisco pistons, pro gram billet main caps have been line bored, and my chinese EDT rods have been machined to right specs. Everything has been balanced.

Well today I ordered more parts for the build. These are the first parts that I have ordered in at least 18 months.

This all had to do with my wifes POS car. It has the same brakes and suspension as my old escort so while doing the brake job, I had a problem. I turned here and wouldnt you believe it my interest in my BP motor is back.

Hell the block is right behind my as I type this but it sits on the ground because I cannot get the paint out of the bolt holes. Since I cant get the paint out, I cant put the bolts in to mount the bolt to the engine stand.

I ordered freeze plugs and ARP cramnk pulley bolts. As soon as I verify that the kit I am looking at for bearings is correct I will order that.

I leave for Afghanistan sometime next week so there goes another year of no work. At least I will come back in May 2011 when its warm. I hate working when its cold and in the dark aka winter.

            Oh yes,

Thanks for the help so far guys. I know this process has taken way too long and it will be longer before it is done.

Once I get back next summer I will need all of your help to put the block back together. I just dont remember how.

Well I didnt expect the shop to paint the block but oh well.

What is the pitch and thread count of those bolts? I dont own any tap and die sets and the army stuff we have is either packed up for storage or on its way to A stan.

I will have to buy some German crap. I really really really hate German tools.

                  Goddammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My block was sitting on cardbored and it was on my floor. While I was on leave one of my ****ing cats pissed near it now most of the oilpan area is coated in rust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus I pulled out one of the bolts for the engine stand and stripped the hole out. What size of tap and die do I need to fix this?

                  What about the rust?

for rust, sand it down if it's really flaky, and use something phosphoric acid based to neutralize it. On my 4AGE block, I just used a wire wheel as much as I could, then just spray painted it with high-temp engine paint.

re: stripped bolt: do you mean the bolts in the back side of the block? I think they're 12x1.25 or 14x1.25, but I don't know for sure. maybe take an UN-stripped bolt to the store, and test with some nuts until you find one that works, then get the appropriate tap.

Yup the bolts that hold the block to an engine stand. My wife told me she would go with me to the german auto store (I need her to translate) but she left with a friend without telling me.

Thanks wifey for blowing me off days before I deploy for a year.

Ok guys here is another delay post.

I leave for Afghanistan tomarrow and you know how long I will be there. I ordered my MBSP, install kit, and ACL bearings from Bill @ MR today. All I have left is an oil pump and crank scraper. Its had taken me a few years to get this done but I am getting closer.

Who here built there own blocks? Bill is telling me to have a shop do it but I do not know of any shop here in Germany and I really dont want to work with a shop that doesnt speak the same language as me.
