yea, i'm with the guys Dan...that rad is only efficient as the size of the fan now since the sides on the fan are solid.

EDIT. the fans i've normally seen people add into aluminum shrouds tend to have a very low lip before the opening to draw in air, the one that you have (nothing wrong with it!) has a larger lip that folds around...not allowing air to be pulled/pushed from the sides.

yeah i think for that to work the fan needs to be back a little more and not ontop of the radiator. as metioned it will probably seal and your just going to pulling air from that one small area and heat soaking the rest of the radiator, i would say make it more conecentric like the above picture and pull the fan back a little further

I normally wouldn't try to pursuade a person during their build but i gotta agree with these guys about the fan, the shroud looks awesome and hopefully it performs as well as it looks

I agree as well, I have to remove part of the original plastic shroud to allow air to be pulled from my alum. shroud area.

I'm out soldering wires today...and tomorrow, and probably the whole weekend. Me no like the wire work.

I got the bumpers sanded and prepped for primer for Thursday...finally. I'll primer all the plastics at that time (bumpers, mirrors, spoilers). Tracked down the paint code for the '06 Mini Cooper S Dark Gray Metallic - I'll be using water-borne Glasurit stuff for the color, and Glasurit for the primer and clear as well. I love that stuff - paired with Sata guns they can make even a newb like me look like I know what I'm doing.

Ive heard water-borne paint is becoming more popular, never sprayed any waterborne paints. Sata gravity feed guns are nice, but i really liked the devilbiss gun I used at work granted it wasnt gravity feed, we had both gravity feed and pressure feed sata guns. I wish I remember what brand it was but we had a gravity feed gun that you could spray upside down with, well more like almost upside down lol. I really like how that gun sprayed. I painted a truck box with it and it sure turned out nice. It was cheap too only like 80 bucks. But the liners for it were 3 bucks a piece. I wish there was better money in automotive painting because I really like painting and already know alot just from work, but I cant justify going to school for it when there isnt money to be made.

In California water-borne is the law now...so if you want something else usually people trailer their cars to Reno or Vegas to get them done. It's very easy to spray and looks fantastic. Europe has been using water-borne for years. Also all the guns here are HVLP by law...for shops.

The good thing about this project is anything can be done with a Mazda. Never in a million years thought of seeing such thread.

Using the Probe transmission lent a few minor issues...like the speedo sensor plug, so I just used the MX3 one, but of course the drive gear for it is different, so I had to put the Probe gear on the MX3 sensor. Also the neutral safety switch had the wrong plug on it...lengthened a few fuse box plugs, made an EGR block-off plate, ran the battery wiring, and extended the starter wires to reach the underhood fusebox (now on the right side).

She's all wired up now and I'm chasing down a no-crank issue. The dash lights all work and the only CEL codes are for the unplugged EGR system. 2 more hours and I'm calling it a day...had enough of low 40s high 30s with freezing wind working outside....what is this, the east coast or something?
