The KLDE that came out of it was evil - EVIL I TELL YOU!

Look what it did when I took it out and inadvertently stored it next an abandoned drill press...now all I hear in my head is "thousands of years ago into the future...."

Finally this weekend I get to spend some time with my baby again. She's getting a new round of mods over the next week, including headers, full exhaust (forcing the ZE to breathe through the full K8 exhaust system is no fun), Millenia manifold, and some sort of home-fashioned colder intake system.

Oil change, tire rotation, and thorough cleaning are also scheduled.

Boo, rear header is not clearing the steering rack. Well, it wasn't clearing the steering rack until I got my sawzall and welder out :D

I might do the same to the front header to give me a little more room from the cooling fan. Then I'll modify the y-pipe to make it all work together.

It's gonna be a slow process, but whatev, it'll get done.

Gonna be adding a thermostat to the maintenance work list as well.

Whew...headers are up, full exhaust is up, new thermostat is in, and oil change done with the ZR1 filter.

The exhaust is 3" OD...kind of big, but I already had it (it was for a Probe, so I had to alter it some), had a matching cat, resonator, and my favorite, the Dynomax Ultra-Flow. Not going to spend $80 on 2.5" tubing if this was already in my possession and welding is free.

For reference, this exhaust sounded like this on my blue Probe before it was a drag car:

The race car that you see in the videos ("The Crank") is Michael Lewis' No. 12 Westward Tools/The Crank Jaguar XKR, a 700hp tube framed, sequential-trannied, carbon fiber wonder running in the Trans-Am American Series in '02. He was third in points that season iirc. It's a 'little' faster than a Probe.

Actually now that I think about it, I think the current iteration of the blue Probe would be quicker in a straight line than The Crank...but I digress.

Photos - first, started with a compression test, and all 6 cylinders show 205-210 psi cold compression results, which is nice for a ZE.

The header modification - I cut through all 3 runners almost all the way through - when all I had was about 1" of metal at the bottom, I stopped, then bent the remaining metal to open up the 'cut' to about 1/4" at the top side of it, effectively moving the y-pipe flange toward the block about 1.5" Then I patch-welded the gaps at the top, water-tested for leaks, and coated them with 1200* header paint.

The front required no mod, as I have about 1/4" of clearance to the cooling fan. The y-pipe needed some changes, naturally, to accommodate the newly repositioned flange of the rear header. At least they freaking fit properly now (Probe/MX6 people know about the legendary fit quality of XSPower headers and other Ebay things).

Exhaust work - the polished muffler was no bueno for me - sprayed it with high temp black paint, should be fairly incognito.

Tomorrow I'll load up the manifold with the fuel rails, solenoids, etc, and put'er in. This should allow me to flow a bit better.

The new intake setup - not the prettiest thing ever, but it will work. Big K&N filter at the end should be getting pretty good airflow from the front.
