I recently did this conversion using a plate from nz. I have struck an issue when the splines on my twin plate clutch were stripped. My mechanic and clutch manufacturer believe it's misalignment of the gearbox to the engine due to the plate. I was wondering if anyone could provide dimensions of te whole centers for the gearbox and engine so I can check my plate

Do you have a picture?? I have a hard time believing this... I have seen plenty worn out input bearings and pilot bearings that allow the clutch disc to move all over the place and its never cause the splines to strip out... Its had to be extreamly bad to cause clutch problems..

While I'm sure anything is possible, for the splines to strip out like that, you would need a senario where the clutch or anything downstream of it needs to resist giving into (I:e: turning, twisting, spinning) a force equal to the force needed to make the metal fail. Missalignment of the box would more than likely cause heavy vibration waaay before the splines stripped.

That's some pics I got. This is a twin plate clutch with solid discs. Clutch ppl have told me that there can only be 10thou tolerance before it destroys the clutch. Both plates are stripped shaft seems ok.

                material failure is my guess.

if it was a misalignment of the input shaft, there would be more wear on one side. in that picture all the teeth are evenly worn. (like when you round off a bolt)

if it was misaligned that bad you would have never gotten your input shaft into the pilot bearing. I vote for shifty clutch disc hub material. Plus as said above, you would have noticed horrid vibrations and probably a growl similar to a bad wheel bearing or diff bearing.

At first I thought that too, but after some more thinking I don't think that is the case since the clutch disc(s) would be grabbing at different places after every shift. So, it's not offset to the same direction all the time.

plus once it starts to let go, its going to strip all the way around in a matter of a split second. think about it... running engine, moving car...

thats a good point, i need to research this a bit more seeing as my next project might require an adapter plate.

Are you guys with the swaps running a pilot bearing in the back of the crank?? Is the transmission input shaft long enough to still engage into it?

No pilot bearing with toyota E-series boxes.

Sure would like to know how the fit was before the teeth stripped cuz it looks to me that the hole was too big for the shaft.

Car was only on run in tune 285hp on 11psi. No launches just cruising. I didn't fit the clutch originally so can't say but I have a new one so will test it tomorrow. Seems strange to me to me that the shaft wasn't damaged. If I have the measurements of the plate you guys have I can check it against my plate.
