After too much down time and with Olympus staring me in the face, I swallowed my pride and took advantage of my pal John Lane's offer to haul my junk up to his shop. He (1) doesn't like being bored and (2) hasn't much in the way of other customer cars coming in right now. I fought with the bellhousing and got it clearanced for the starter and bolt head and such, but now I hope maybe things will move along a bit more smoothly. I'll be spending days up there to help wrench and I'll bring my camera...

'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

"There's a hierarchy of insanity in motor sports. Normal people think all racers are crazy. Folks who race sedans think people in open-wheel cars are nuts. People who race cars of any kind think motorcycle racers are absolutely off theirs meds. But there's one group that everyone agrees is made up of the most extreme, the most daring, and absolutely craziest people in racing - rally racers."

Still gonna try to make Oly. He's gonna get as much done as possible till he can't sand it anymore then I'll get it outta his sight and see if I can do the rest.

We've got the turbo mounted to the manifold, waiting on an exhaust flange from jgsturbo to put tween the head and the manifold to tget the turbo out far enough to clear the bellhousing, got the starter installed, and tomorrow is put the engine and gearbox together day, with any luck at all. We had to ream out a couple of the adapter plate bolt holes, among other issues... like say fer one the oilplan I sent out that got so nicely modded for this project? I failed to notice it was a N/A pan. And it's now oh-so-carefully installed on the block. And now we gotta put a hole in it and a bung, for the turbo drain.

I should just have those 2 smilies as my .sig for the rest of this build thread

Crap, I didn't know that it was a N/A pan when you sent it...I just figured it was a different year of the BPT pan when I modified it. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I didn't know I *had* a N/A pan. It never even occurred to me. That one I sent must have been a spare that came with the rallycar, from its orig. engine? No idea at this point...

ream out adapter plate holes??? i didnt have any issues like that, i had to take a rat-tail file to a couple of the top bellhousing holes (on the gearbox itself) but thats it.

Which holes did you have to open up? I modified that pan while bolted to an ST205 transmission with an adapter from the same production run as yours.

Looking at it from the flywheel side of the block, the upper right bolthols, and the middle right hole for the block dowel.

I ran outta time to get the trans on today but we did verify that the starter/clutch/flywheel relationship all works, the starter turns things over as it should, and the xfer is off the gearbox and ready to slide into place, maybe. That's when we'll find out just how much more case shaving remains to be done.
