Haven't had time to work on it much, but today I made the starter cutout. I took quite a while as I wanted the opening to be as 'tight' as possible.

I also made the intermediate shaft bracket and dropped it off at the welder because I opted to just weld to the cast iron bracket. The cast iron tacked fine with my mig welder, but I'd rather have a professional do it right (tig'ed with nickel rods).

      lookin' good, as always!

Are you planning on somehow covering that starter area, or just leaving it open to air?

I personally don't think there's really any problem with it staying open other than clutch dust coming out and getting in your engine bay, or if you hit a puddle just right, water getting into the clutch and messing with things.

Hmm, hadn't really thought about it. But, now that you mentioned it, I'll just cover the gaps with a bead of silicone, or use some compressible weather stripping.

u guys should be gettin levin boxs and makein them 4x4
then u would have a place for the starter no need to cut the box ...... and the mounts u made
              will all bolt on

no levin's in the states... nothing with a fwd 4AGZE ever existed here. we'd have to use an MR2 box and flip the shift linkage around etc etc...

Got the intermediate shaft bracket back from the welder today and ground the welds smooth as they were ugly.

That's a friggin' beefy intermediate shaft!

Is that heat wrap around the starter?

                      Yeah, I had some left over - it's self-adhesive. I figured it couldn't hurt.

So, what's this about having to make a new int. shaft bracket? I thought the thing to do was use toyota shafts and everything bolts right up.

jay, on the FWD trans there is an intermediate shaft instead of a rear transfer

Oh... I thought I was looking at the toyota equivalent of the pax side jackshaft bracket.
I haven't bought my front halfshaft yet, and I'm still in that happy ignorance is bliss place, where I'm relying on intarweb lore that says they'll just drop right in and bolt right up..

Pax side front is a 2 piece jackshaft arrangement.
