Finally got some proper lift struts for my rear hatch. The OEM lift struts are way too strong for a carbon fiber hatch, so I snagged some ball studs from a ford probe at the junkyard and to my surprise they threaded right into the holes in the body of the escort eliminating the need for a strut with that special lower bracket. I then contacted an ebay seller that sells struts and told him of my special situation and he recommended the struts from a 96-02 Dodge Viper coupe that were exactly the same dimensions as the escort ones without the lower bracket and less then half the weight rating of the OE ones. They are a perfect fit and weight, so if anyone needs some struts to go with their carbon fiber hatch these are the ones to get.

I had to pick up a car from the Dodge dealer the other day and there were a few Vipers sitting there in the service area. Its funny they have weaker struts when that hatch looks bigger.

One of the Vipers was a 700R. That might be fun.

In other news I sent my Kia injectors off to be cleaned today from a place called InjectorExperts.com. Total cost will be $72 with return shipping included.

Anybody know for sure if the N/A clutch I have will bolt up to my Miata fidanza flywheel?

Just want to make sure before I start my rebuild.

Started tearing the car apart today. Engine and trans are out and engine is stripped down to check the pistons before I order new ones. Turns out this engine was only re-ringed and still has the original pistons, so I will be just getting the .020" oversize Miata pistons.

I will save the fancy pistons for the next engine.........

Worked on the exhaust all day long and got as far as I could until I can reinstall the engine to finish matching it up to the SMSP header. The ZX2 kit is not perfect and I did a lot of cutting and welding today. I reused the OE exhaust hangers on every part of it and tried to tuck the exhaust up like the stock one.

I tacked up the tip before it got dark, but am unsure of it. It was a little longer but it looked dumb from the rear so I shortened it to be flush with the back of the bumper. I thought it would look good following the angle of the bumper but IDK.....

I will also be painting it all with flat black exhaust paint like the vibrant muffler so the tip wont be so obvious

I got the injectors back and he was supposed to send me a report which is what he told me on the phone, but he must of forgot to put it in the box. Very friendly mom and pop type operation it seems and they were prompt on getting my stuff taken care of along with shipping right away and honoring the posted price. Apparently they havnt updated the pricing yet on the website but if i remember correctly he said its supposed to be 19$ each instead of $18. Injectors look great, and it looks like even the plastic bodies were replaced, just wish he would have sent the report because I was really curious to see before and after results. Oh well.

Tomorrow I will be finishing the welding, painting the tip and all my welds to prevent rust, and working on giving the SMSP header a stock stealthy appearence with the OE heatshield, plus I dont want all the extra heat in the engine bay anyway. Going to try and make a hybrid coolant overflow and windshield washer bottle to save some space so I can have a decent place to mount my catch can and fuel pressure gauge.

I figured I would get this question haha........

Well after doing much reading on Honda forums from some reputable people making some crazy N/A power, the conclusion is if the header is well designed then everything after it is a restriction and considering I have the best header available for a FWD BP well. I combed through many dyno charts and found that what was being said about larger exhaust seemed to have relevancy. Gains were shown even on B16's with minor mods throughout the power band even on the bottom end. Gains vary depending on mod level and tuning, which to extract the most gains from the larger piping, that tuning was the real key. Which is why big exhaust and ITB's have a bad rap about killing low end power it seems. No tuning and poor design and or approach.

With that said, Megasquirt will be in the future along with a larger engine around 2.4L also in N/A trim, so its also planning ahead as well.
