I think the sending unit to the gauge is crap.

the heat is nice and warm in a few miles of driving, like my other cars. Since I replaced the iac, the idle is high like normal on cold start then settles to normal idle, like my other cars. The upper hose gets hot and the t-stat opens like normal, and the fan kicks on for 2 or 3 mins, then shuts off...like it should. lol. Ive bleed all the air out too.

but my temp gauge never reads higher than the "O" in the "NORMAL" on the temp gauge. On the Escort temp gauge, its barely 1/4 of the gauge. Actually right when the needle on the gauge gets to the O the fan kicks on. I assume its sending unit to the temp gauge, because I didnt replace it. The cooling system works perfectly imo, so Ill probably replace the sending unit...eventually lol.

yeah I guess it happens lol. had a small hole in it. Not much corrosion on the inside. you can see how clean the outside of the cylinder is in that one pic.

Ya my GFs ZX2 has the same issue. Wouldn't heat up, so I replaced the t-stat, but now she's not going past 1/3 of the needle sweep lol when driving, but it'll go 1/2 when idling.... I'm guessing it's probably not the gauge...but maybe the a/c system? I keep feeling the car shake a bit like the rad fan comes on, but it happens quite a bit.

I know a/c compressors are supposed to run periodically to keep everything working...but maybe it's coming on too soon? your EGT has a/c too, right?

Guess I should update this some haha. Dropped the oil pan and bolted up a MBSP. New front and rear main seals, cam seals, disty oring and valve cover gasket, Probe Exedy clutch and pp on a 99 miata flywheel. New axles and trans seals. New water pump. 99 miata starter. Did all this a few months ago. I didnt take many pics but I have a few somewhere Ill try to upload.

On a side note.. bought a vj20, mani and dp, should bee here soon. Getting gtx ecu, vaf and injectors soon. Looking to do just a stock gtx setup and retain the a/c and sleeper status. Red car is still alive and kicking but Im wanting to do the egt up some. Turbo is the only way lol.

Also forgot, new front wheel bearings were done as well. New pads and brake lines on the front. When i had the pan off I didnt drill it for a oil return..dumbass me lol. Rear right caliper has a slow leak from where the ebrake lever arm goes into the casting.. Sucks, and its dripping on the inside of the wheel and eating the clearcoat off. Arrgh.

I think Im going to try and use the trigger from the gtx ecu that illuminates the "boost" light on gtx cluster to activate the vics solenoid.

That's a great idea for a VICS solution.
