    Project Prototype 1992 Mazda Protege

I will like to share my new project since my 323 was wreck by 3 kids on a motorcycle that literally stops on my car.

The best ET in that 323 was 10.92 @ 128 mph back then five years ago (Full weight daily driven without AC and PS) with 420WHP

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2AFXILRiRc

Anyway I start last year a new project but this time I will be a 1992 Mazda Protege LX instead. Again it will be a daily driven but this time with all the comfort of A/C and P/S.

My goals will be 400WHP on pump gas (maybe 450 with meth injection later).

Here the mods that will go to this car.

    JE 9.1 Pistons
    Crower Rods
Stock BP Kia Crank (Big nose)
    ARP Head Bolts
    Stock Heads
    Fidanza Cam Gears
GTX Intake Manifold, (My mechanic has a GTR intake so maybe I will steal that from him if it makes a difference )
    Injector Dynamics 1000cc injectors
    Custom Fuel Rail
Aeromotive FP and 340 in tank fuel pump
Garrett GT3582r with .82 turbine hosing
Tial Q BOV and MSV 38mm Wastegate
Treadstone TR8 Intercooler and Aluminum Charge Pipes
Megasquirt 3 with MS3X expansion board
ACT Xtreme Pressure Plate with a Competition Clutch 4 puke with springs disc
    Kia Tranny
    Megasquirt 3 with MS3X board

So far the engine, tranny and MS3 is in place. I got the turbo this week.

Here is some pictures of my build so far:

The car with the engine in place (with the stock ecu in place back then)

hey I remember your old car! Glad to see you're around again. Sounds like you're off to a great start though!

Also the GTR intake manifold is much more superior in any shape/form than the GTX intake. Hell, even the n/a BP one should flow better than the GTX one.

So I was looking for pictures about FMIC installations in the website to get ideas about the new FMIC that I want to setup. If you can see my wreck 323 I made holes by the sides of the radiator but this time I dont want to do that again. I try google it some pictures but with a few hits. Looking at some pictures like this:

Lets me wonder that could be possible without cutting anything. But if I pass the tubes like this one it will interference with the JDM bumper that I want to install? Will the tubes will be expose to the road or will be covered with the bumper.

Mazda Powered that is your setup/picture and looks like the setup that I want for my car.

Can you have other pictures of your setup?

              Thanks

Long time without updates but here we go.

                1) Fuel system is in place. (ID1000 injectors, Aeromotive Stealth 340 in tank fuel pump, new circuit for the fuel pump, custom fuel rail, Aeromotive FPR, AEM Fuel Pressure Sensor, Earls inline fuel filter, braided hose lines with AN fittings).

Here is a video of how the ID1000 injectors performs (is in spanish sorry) but you can see in the video a perfect idle at +-14.7 AFR even though they are 1000cc injectors. Obviously this is possible also because of the fine VE table resolution of the MS3.

                2) The turbo manifold design is complete. As you can see is like ram horn design. The guy that is making the manifold make an awesome job. You can see the stock radiator is in place with plenty of space to make a decent three inch down pipe and still retaining the factory A/C compressor and P/S. The wastegate will dump to the downpipe not to the ambient to keep the noise down.

Once the manifold is complete it will get a treatment of ceramic coating including the downpipe and the turbine housing.

Then this will be next to install:

Look at the baffle inside the IC to distribute the air to the whole core making it more efficient.

I am pushing this project to finish it by mid july and hope to dyno it soon. My goal is 400whp on pump gas (maybe more with water/meth injection) and lows 11 on the quarter or 130+mph trap speeds. I think with this setup it will be achievable.

That looks awesome. What are you going to do suspension wise to get it to hook on the track?

I already upgrade the bushings with ES components plus the inserts and KYB shocks. But I have already solid mounts in case I need then if the inserts doesnt cut it. Also I am considering upgrading the diff with a quaife lsd.

Its a more complex setup if you ask me. I can make the same benefit plus more HP with the water/meth injection once is in place.
