I noticed this protégé sitting in grass when I would walk home from school every once in awile 2 years ago. Last week I was skateboarding in the area and noticed the car was still there. I stopped by, knocked on the door, and was shown the car. My plans were just to get the front end off of it, and other odd various parts for my current 91lx project and then I realized the car was a lot more then what it looked like.
The car's owner passed away 3 years ago in a car accident and was now sitting in his sisters yard. Needless to say I picked the car up for 500$... Best investment of my life haha...
Garage kept before being in his sisters yard with 102k miles. I was told he had plans of making it his rally car, and it rides/runs like it too. I popped the hood and found a bp05 with a vj20 slapped on it. definitely a perfectionist that took his time (he was a machinist.) When I got it It needed a tune (still does) but I put a bp26 ecu with a rx7 Vaf and it runs a lot better now. I had to throw a starter and a battery in it at the guys house, fired right up after 8 months of not running.
I guess the owners didn't know what they had, but they were really nice people and I was glad to take the car.
I don't feel like I deserve it, he really put a lot into it (even came with a mazda workshop manual and the wiring diagram book!) and all I can do is continue his legacy and keep it goin. Which I intend to do. Better then some Honda guy getting his hands on it and driving it off a bridge.
