    Need some INFO ASAP

ok im looking at getting an underdrive pulley but it is for the 93-95 1.8 DOHC escort.... will this fit my 93 1.8 DOHC Pro??? and also how true is this and should i think twice about the pulley
"Unorthodox Racing makes underdrive pullies however it is not recommended to use any underdrive crank pullies from any company at all because it can cause oil pump failures. All Protege engines are directly crank driven and if an under- drive crank pulley is used, it can cause accelerated wear in it which will event- ually lead to failure! Typical underdrive crank pullies do not have a harmonic balancer and therefore all the oscillating forces from the crankshaft are transmitted elsewhere. Even on the typically well balanced stock crankshafts, there is always a very slight imbalance in them and as such the forces caused by them results in the oscillations. Many turbo Miata engines have blown up from oil pump failures due to the installation of underdrive crank pullies. Be warned!"
Check out the J Way Group Project Proto HERE i will also make a page with all the hundreds of pics of my progress so keep checking

There are a lot of topics on this ... I hope you have your flame suit...

Especially since you answered your own Q in a partial manner.

    Good luck

I personally have never heard anything besides hear-say, although it does seem that it would also underdrive the oil pump if you think about it.

        Under drive pulleys...Oil PSI

Many will say under drive pulleys are not recommended, but there are plenty of positive articles from many import magazines that show the benefits of using them. There are even companies dedicated to make em for brand new vehicles. All that I know is that I have never seen anyone complain that the waranty was voided because of an under drive pulley.

I had an UD pulley from UR and never had any problems. If you still feel it might afect oil pump performance just get an oil gauge and see if there is any real difference.

As long as there is a good constant dose of oil going to the block and idling pressure is within car specs I do not think any problems are goin to arise. Like I said I had one in my naturally aspirated car which then became turbo and never had problems.

        * ALL in ALL it may seem that the above is complete horse relish, but take whatever seems useful and disregard what may be ludricous.

yeah, there are positive articles about using them when you use them on something OTHER than a BP.

For a BP, they 1: will not give you any gains, 2: are a waste of money because of #1, 3: will cause accelerated wear due to underdriven oil pump

          Waste of money....get cams

            UP gains!, LOL

Yeah sure, maybe if you buy sodium impregnated under drive pulleys you will see some gains. LOL

I've never heard anything but problems with the crank pully on BPs. Obviously not right away, but any experienced Miata racer will say not to get them, unless you're internals are lightened and fully balanced to like, 10,000RPM.

If you've got a fully built motor, and you're looking for that last 1-2hp, them maybe go for it. You'll see better results from a lightened flywheel though...

I have had a udp pulley on 3 cars with no problems .My 92 Escort Gt,My 96 Escort Gt and my 99 Z-24 that i sold. No problems at all.If you held one in your hand and put the stock pulley in the other you'll be suprised at how light it is.As far as throwing your motor out of balance thats BS.I dont think unorthodox would be in business this long if parts they sold screwed up everyones car.
Besides the you'll be happy when you feel the difference on the first drive.

Well, it's not true. You actually free up power when you take weight off the drivetrain.
