loud noises from BP!?

My car is making a real loud noise. I dont think its pinging because it doesnt sound like someone threw coins in the motor, it sounds more like a slap or a clapping noise. It happens at idle, and gets even louder as the rpms rise, i dont know if its knocking or what. I doubt its the HLA's because it is insanely loud and i dont know what it is. Also i blow a little bit of white smoke from the exhaust, which could mean coolant, but lets hope thats not the case. Could it be timing? Please post back. Peace
