    Any clues? Automatic destruction

Ok. 93 Protege LX Automatic trans rebuilt and worked flawless for 5000 miles. Now, it started slipping between first and second. It feels as if it just is not downshifting all the way into first when you stop. It will creep at idle in first just fine and then it just seems to let go of the gear when you accelerate. If you try to shift it manually, same symptoms. New fluid and filter and replaced the valve body with a good used one and it's still the same. Pressure is good. Now, you can click the hold button and manually shift it and it works fine. Shift it through to 2nd and then drive, click "hold" off and it goes right on to 4th/OD. Wait till you stop and just repeat the process. WHAT could be wrong with this thing? Will driving it using the hold capability like this hurt it? Thanks for any and all suggestions. I've pulled out so much hair over this I can't even do a Donald Trump combover.

First question is: How hard was it driven? Had the same problem on a 95 Escort with a rebuilt auto tranny. The kid who owned it beat the crap out of it.
Solved the problem by switching to a manual transmission.
When starting out in D, (from a stop) does it sit there and if you accelerate it will then move or just slip. My 90 LX wil do this once in a while.
I would Recheck fluid condition, level, and maybe add some additive such as Lucas Stop slip, or Seafoam Transtune.
Did you have it rebuilt at a shop? If so is there any kind of warranty? I would take it to that shop.
Most that are rebuilt from a shop will have a 12month or 12,000 mile warranty.

    Hope this helps.

My wife's nephew is a builder for a transmission shop. He built it for me at home for the cost of the kit and converter, so no warranty. My wife drives it to college every day of the week. It's about 100 mile round trip. We did a fluid and filter change and changed the valve body and solonoid with a good, clean used one. Same symptoms. Added "Lubeguard" for Mercon fluid transmissions. No change there. Like it is, in the "HOLD" mode, I can shift it manually and it does not slip. To try to drive it normally it will slip just like yours. It's as if it can't find the gear without the help of the "HOLD" capability. Can it hurt anything to drive it that way? Thanks for any help and all responses.
