so even though i'm using a sohc tranny with a dohc motor...i use the dohc ecu for the Manual trannsimition...

If i used the DOHC tranny, will my current drive axles fit? or do i need different drive axles for the different trannys?

If you used the DOHC tranny then you'd have to use the DOHC axles, as the splines are different, I believe on has 22 teeth and the other 23........ Also I believe that you'd still have to use the DOHC clutch and flywheel w/ the DOHC tranny.

if you look at the torque numbers between the DOHC 114 ft-lb and the SOHC 111ft-lb. i dont think torque loss will be an issue.

yes the DOHC is concidered stronger, but you have the SOHC tranny might as well use it. I'm going to be running a DOHC on an F-series tranny.

I just changed my SOHC engine with a DOHC engine on my 323LX and the swap is fairly simple and straight forward. You need the DOHC ECU, two wires to add into your existing yellow ECU connectors which will connect to the VICS connector and the other one to the existing distributor connector (the existing SOHC distributor connector has three wires and the you need to add a fourth wire there) and 3 heavy duty fuel clamps and about 20"of fuel line. It took me 7 hours to perform the swap, since the tranny needs to come out with the engine to perform the swap.

Check out my explaination on this thread for the wiring harness:

Now I need your help with my speedo cable, check out this thread, some please come to my rescue!!!!!:

I should have about 170-180hp at the crank once I'm done with my mods. So far I regrinded the cams, port/polished and performed 3 angle valve job on the heads, port matched, polished and knife edged the intake manifold. Once I get the genie headers and do a 2"mandrel bent exhaust and RX7 VAF I should eat GSRs and maybe Type Rs for breakfast.

I can regrind your cams for $200US if you're interested. Expect atleast 10whp more over the stock cams.

            92 323 with BP DOHC
ported/polished head, regrinded cams, JUN adjustable cam gears, ported AFM, ported/knife edged intake manifold.

            N/A project dropped.

I wouldn't expect that much with the stock computer. Having seen the full Gude package "only" make 120 WHP with the stock computer, it's apparent that the computer is the limiting factor. (He might have made a few more HP had he not used a $3 alternator belt that came off on his first dyno run.) The stock fuel injectors (250-255cc) also won't flow enough fuel for that kind of HP.

I guess will have to see. I've seen a few dyno plots of protege with BP DOHC with exhaust, headers, intake mods and they've produced all ready 130whp. 150whp is about 175hp at the crank therefore so cams and head porting and I should easily reach 150whp.

on average the difference between BHP and WHP is 17.3% so BHP *(1.00-.173) = WHP

I remember reading about this somewhere. From what I recall you need to use two nuts as "spacers" because the cable is too long. I remember someone telling me that when I was asking him about his swap in a 323 and all of the problems he was running into.

I'll look for the AIM name of the guy I talked to, if I can find it I will post it for you to ask him/ or I will ask him if I see him on.

I took care of the speedo cable this weekend, I waste a good 30 minutes and by accident both pieces snaped together, I lubes the ball bearing inside the upper piece since they felt seized and affer some effort things worked. Aparently Mazda changed the design of the speedo cable so they force you to buy both upper and lower piece, they have some service bulletin against the speed cable design.

I used my stock tranny since I like beeing in 5th gear at 2400rpms and be about 62mph(100km/h), therefore I wouldn't have any issues with cable lengths.
