I'm not sure how much they took off. I asked to make sure that I'd have enough clearance for the valves and they said they had a "no go" point that they wouldn't go past.

That being said, we spent the better part of yesterday getting it all back together. I screwed up and reversed the firing order between the disty and plugs. By the time I realized it, the engine was pretty much flooded. We spent the next couple of hours trying to get the cylinders dried out enough to work, but never did. So, I took out the plugs and let it sit overnight. I'm going to get new plugs too.

If it isn't just flooded, I don't know what the deal is.

flooded with gasoline? -.- wowsers... that sucks oh yeah, you might be looking at an o2 sensor as well, forgot to mention that, mine went to ****s after my headgasket job. apparently they are sensitive to silcone and water. well good luck

OK. New plugs, new disty cap and rotor.....nothin. It turns over, but never catches. Gas was leaking from the injectors, but we fixed that so, it's getting gas. We pulled the plug on the wire to check for spark, it looks OK. I'm at a loss.

The only thing that I can think of is maybe a whole new distributor. But, to be honest, I feel like I'm just throwing money at it now. I'm really baffled. We've checked all the connections. Were careful to get the timing back where it was when we took it off. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

          Thanks.

Re-check your timing... you may be on #1 TDC exhaust stroke, instead of compression???

Well, rather than just trying one thing then the other, I'm going to take it to a mechanic and have him diagnose the problem. I'll let y'all know.

i'd say timing.. got gas, got spark, hopefully air as well, so if the engine isnt turning over, i'm guessing timing, make sureyou have everything pluged back up, maf, disty, ignition coil, everything.

Buy yourself the Haynes repair manuel... its priceless... unlike a mechanic, don't waste your money
...did you re-verify that the distributer rotor is pointing to #1 piston when it is TDC on compression?

The mechanic verified several of your suspicions, the cam timing is off. It's going to cost me, but I'm just going to have him fix it. I'm still way ahead of having a shop do the whole head gasket job, but I'm TIRED of dealing with it. So is my wife.

Thanks to everyone for your input.
