    head grinding benefits?

    is there any benefit to grinding/porting the head on the bp 1.8, i can use a dremel and do whatever, i'm just wondering where to grind that works the best and what kind of difference it would make.

      it's actually not that complicated. if anything the only hard part is figuring out the best places to grind/polish, i was just wondering if you guys know.

          Just gasket match the ports..........Or smooth down the walls deep as you can,dont get to greedy........Leave the valve job and shaving to a machine shop.

                thats what i was thinking, i'm definately not touching the valves. do you know if there are any areas that are commonly taken care of that are restrictive? on some of the older cars that i've ground heads on they have some pretty ridiculous engineering. i guess once i get the car i'll just look for myself.

                  When I rebuild my BP at the end of this summer I'm going to take about .040 off of the head and port both the intake and exhaust ports! I wouldn't worry about taking much out of the runners or making the port much bigger, just mainly do bowl work around the valve stem and smooth everything over. Also focus on where the intake port splits and goes to both valves. Take out all the casting marks and try to be consistant. People that say not to touch your head just don't have any balls. CNC machining for porting heads hasn't been around for very long and heads have been ported way before any of us were ever born. Don't get greedy with removing material or you will fck them up. Keep it simple and just smooth everything over! You will notice a HUGE difference in the top end of the motor by porting the intake. You will loose some bottom end torque by porting the exhaust side, but it's worth it when you wrap the motor up to about 5k. Milling the head down will bring up the bottom end torque that you lost by porting the exhaust side!

                    If you do get the valve job, a 15/45/75 is better than a 30/45/60 angle on the BP.
                    The T3 BP MX-3 conversion has begun, and is taking forever & will kill me.
