    SOHC vrs DOHC VAF

Okay first post, swapping a BP into an escort LX, and I can't seem to find this information anywhere and the local mazda shop's being a prick at looking up part numbers for me.

The VAF from the SOHC, is it the same as what's used for the DOHC? See I can get a SOHC VAF for free ... that helps lower my cost for the swap LOL

They carry different part numbers. I can't say if a SOHC will work on the BP, but i do know that the DOHC will work on a SOHC motor.

the SOHC will work with a DOHC motor. but you should tune it. it will be slightly more restrictive then that of the DOHC VAF.... just go get a RX7 meter and be done with it

That will at least get my car up and running, I'll look into the prce the RX7 VAF before I make the decision on a free part or not.

thank you very much for your answer

you can usually buy the RX7 VAF's for around $50 shipped... if I find one at the u-pull-it i'll make sure to grab it because I know I can make the money back.

I used a SOHC VAF on my DOHC for 6 months wihout any tuning and worked great. I swapped the correct VAF and never seen any difference.

that's good to know because I spoke to the guy today: $25 for the ducting, VAF and Airbox from a 92 or 3 SOHC.

He used to work for mazda ... he's been a great source of parts, some of which even cheap.

And yeah, you don't know how relieved I was when i poped that valve cover and saw that: I work for toyota and you wouldn't believe some of the messes I've seen in engines. So far ... no real big carbon or sludge buildups. If I weren't so paranoid, I could've dropped the engine in without the work I'm doing to it.
