Yes, but think this is good information for people who don't have $300 for cam gears. So what if they only get part of the gain? They can always upgrade to adjustable gears later and sell their modded cam gear.

Also I have been thinking of running a BP at the racetrack in the "unmodified" enduro 4 cyl hornet class. The winners car can be bought for $300. I was thinking about this mod and shaving the head to raise the compression a little.

One more thing, I wonder if this idea could be improved by making the stock gear somewhat adjustable.

Here is a quote from the enduro rules.

            >>4. Race track officials may impound any car after the race and at the officials' option will purchase the competitor's car for $300 or return it to him within five days. This race is to be for the low budget, beginner hot shoe. No high dollar cars. All cars must be removed after the race or they become the property of the Race Track. Any competitor not willing to transfer his car will be disqualified, forfeit any prize monies, trophy and be disqualified from any future enduros. Also, any car may be claimed by the track for the mandatory claim amount. Anyone is eligible to bid on the car including the original owner, other drivers, pit crew, fans, officials etc.<<

You got it right. And to bring things back on subject. I wouldn't want to have a set of $300 neon purple aftermarket adjustable cam gears under the cover when they opened it up. I think the modded "stock" parts could go unnoticed. And if they are, well at least they didn't cost a bunch and they are in the spirit of low dollar racing. I heard that they don't inspect that close on the enduro cars because the prizes are not that big. My friend runs and he did head and manifold work.

you should get a cut intake manifold from ryan, and get it all carboned up inside somehow

I've been hearing a lot of ppl asking about this mod so I figured I'd make this thread a sticky since there's a lot of info about doing the swap in here.

                      heya just a small question

i have a bp it has bp06 on exhaust cam and bp05 on intake i bought a set of cams and the intake is bp22 and the exhaust is bp 05

                      to do the bp exhitake mod i need a bp06 don't i ?

                      Comment

honestly, i would put the new cams up to a digital caliper & measure max lift on the cam lobes. to determine the best situation

BP22 is a rare beast of an engine that had wilder cams & higher compression pistons. its an overseas option only. what it came in im not sure.

yea they were out of a ford laser tx3 apparently so .. the bp22 is a good cam for intake or do you not know the specs ?

i roughly measured it in mm and the difference when the lobe was facing straight up approx with calipers not digital and it was about 0.2 mm difference

                          from the bp05 the measure of the bp22 was 44.6mm (1.756") or and bp05 was 44.8mm (1.764")

                          Comment

can some body get some measurements from the bp22 intake cam for me and would they be able to tell me if its better than a bp exintake cam swap for the intake ... i was meant to be using a bp05 but then relised i allready had 1 lol

also is the bp22 a turbo or NA cam ?

my mate rob tried this mod with cam gears and the works at a professional workshop with his forged GTR motor , and it was a complete flop , it wouldnt even make any decent power. it was tuned on the dyno and they couldnt get over 200 odd whp when the car made over 300 or so on the stock cams....it was done properly and tested for a fair while , he was mighty pissed he read all this info and found zero results.....

dont flame me just passing on useful info , i know he went to alot of trouble to do it , so unless someone else has dyno proven real gains in a turbo application with tuning and before and after tests i wont belive it to work.

I doubt you could drop 100whp over a cam swap like this. What exaust cam did he use(n/a or gtr)? Something doesn't seem right....100whp is a big ass drop. Bpt323 has this mod done on his gtx motor using a gtx exaust cam and made more power.
