I take grammar, spelling, and general command of the English language into account when buying stuff. I'd rather you be coherent and be able to post something intelligent so I have the confidence that you can figure out a transaction rather than worry about your ability to pad a post count...

Crank scrapers are not some fake product created to take anyones money, theses things have been around for a long time and they do work. The benefits to hp benefit is small, but if you ever take your car too the track then why not. OEMs have used them, and they provide some of the same benefits a dry sump can provide without adding the dry sump, especially if you have a windage tray along with it.92 Mazda MX3 GS> For sale, $1750 OBO

I just re-read the post and saw where you stated the crank scraper is only $50 or $99 for teflon. That's a lot less than the $160-$200 listed on this guys site..
Looks like he makes a good product what he needs though is a hand cleaning up that site
@ 50 a pop i might just buy one for both of my BP carsLast edited by jacobrussell; 11-16-2008, 12:01 PM.eat me

I use a torque wrench when torquing my main bearing caps.

Really I usually just turn them until I cant any more.
What i ment, and you should know, if you knew anything about building a engine. The Main Bearing Cap bolt torqure specs were figured out with out using a crank scraper. If it is to thin it will squish. I do not know if it is tin, aluminuim, stainless etc this also is differant metal with a differant density than cast steel and may need a bit more torque.
Idk about you, but as a mechanic, a REAL mechanic. I have seen people try and rebuild their lower ends, who have had main bolts or con rod nuts come flying off and right through thier oil pan.
You dont need to be a smart ass if you dont understand some ones response or post ask what they mean or move on.Last edited by jacobrussell; 11-16-2008, 06:45 PM.eat me

Sorry I'd love to be a mechanic, but working for REAL mechanics I've come to find they know nothing more than a shart.
For the record, I'm not a mechanic... nor a REAL mechanic.
I just reused my old main cap bolts, and torqued them an extra 25ft/lbs. I can't remember what the final torque was, but you'd just have to sift through my thread to find it.

wow this is turning into a flame fest ... crank scrapers are well known mods usually used in larger slower revving motors that need all the help in the world to lighten the reciprocating mass and reduce the " oil cloud" as mentioned before. this isnt something new. the msbc is well worth having to strengthen the bottom end and if someone can combine the 2 effectively i say awesome!
usually the maker of the scraper will add info about a critical torque rate if it is necessary.
